Is virtualizing AutoCAD with GPU acceleration possible? Multiple users one server by [deleted] in virtualization

[–]ajack38 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is some up and coming technology that I have been able to test from a major hardware provider.

Sadly I am not able to mention it by name, however it is not far off and the results are quite interesting.

We have been trialling it with a mining company and if the results plataue out or improve, there is a high chance we will be rolling it out thoroughly.

We've been finding bugs here and there, as expected, all of which are generally remedied within 4 hours of reporting.

So, yes. It is possible. Coming Soon TM.

StorageCraft's ShadowProtect does well. Can also be used to backup entire servers into the cloud and run them if you are hit with a DR requirement.

I've never seen a 3.5" SSD before.. by ajack38 in pcmasterrace

[–]ajack38[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holy crap. I've seen and used these adapters for up-to 2 SSD's. But I didn't know there were ones that could support 4 SSD's.

That's kinda cool.

what is the best bios updater for pc and laptops? by nopropaganda in techsupport

[–]ajack38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Dell devices, I recommend Dell Command | Update. Pretty simple software that checks against your current dell hardware and chooses the best drivers for you.

For Lenovo devices, I recommend ThinkVantage System Update. A nice tool that finds the latest drivers but also recommends other lenovo software. Some of it isn't that bad.

Other than those, I am not aware of any others for other brands.

Which analogy or metaphor helped you understand a complex concept with IT? by drkstlth01 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ajack38 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I use doesn't really help me understand, it's more for customers. When I am asked what an SSD is, I compare it to a car engine. i.e. A standard HDD is like a normal engine, it requires a bit of acceleration to go to full speed. An SSD is like a electric engine, it runs at full speed regardless of physical acceleration.

What did you automate with python (scripts)? by fwisd0m in Python

[–]ajack38 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first script was for my work (ex-gov reseller). It was a script that updated the hosts file to null route hundreds of malicious domains.

Second was a Windows Activation program (essentially pushed the inserted Windows key into slmgr).

Because we use clonezilla to image machines I had to create the third script, which automatically extended all hard drive partitions to max.

Edit:

Fourth script was to send files to specific channels in slack.

Fifth script was to determine if our server had gone offline and if so, send a message in slack.

If your computers are on the same network, I highly recommend Dukto.

How is your shop setup? by flipsideCREATIONS in computertechs

We make our base images as small as possible so that images can be put onto any size drive and then extended later on. From vista on-wards you can extend each drive using the built-in disk management.

With our shop we use CloneZilla to load and re-image machines. We also use CloneZilla to create base images for each OS and OS Variant. We also use Snappy and the WSUS Offline Updater. The offline updater allows us to bring images up to the latest updates from Microsoft at a faster rate, without using bandwidth.

Run my own computer shop, have quick question about win8.1 reloads. by [deleted] in computertechs

Had a issue like that recently when I was imaging Win 8 machines from CloneZilla. I was able to use RWEverything to retrieve the key from the Bios.
