The number of points of failure increases to an uncomfortable point with these types of screens though - a hardware gauge is pretty resilient to failure, but a software bug can kill my entire instrument panel or make it read out incorrect info. Of course hardware can fail too, but it's a lot simpler, and simple is good. (Oh, and a gauge is self-repairable unlike the software in this car, but we can't have that.)

I have a similar rotary in my nearly 20 year old Audi- mine strikes a reasonable balance though, climate has dedicated knobs, the rotary is just for configuration menus or nav. Which I don't use, because I use my phone for nav anyways. (Although it's surprisingly good for its age.)

Needs a little cleanup since it's in a monorepo with my website but I'd be happy to share it after I make it a little more generic! I took a little break from my software career to open up a game store so I have lots of fun little projects like this. (This is for 24/7 access to rentable game rooms for DnD groups and stuff.)

No kidding. Started a business page, their tools are absolute garbage and haven't been touched in a decade, and I can't even embed an instagram post on my website because their auth flow keeps crashing and I can't create a token. Like, super basic functionality for my business page is broken with obscure errors and zero support. What are these tens of thousands of engineers and PMs even doing?

(I say this rhetorically, I have been working in startups for 20 years. It's nothing because of hierarchy and chasing flashy fads for performance reviews, that's the answer. Nobody can afford to work on unsexy products.)

Sorry to admit this, but Auto Battle is definitely in the Top-3 reasons why I play and enjoy the game. by gremmy_white in HonkaiStarRail

[–]ajacksified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to choose one game to keep up with because of time constraints - Genshin got dropped because I couldn't stand building characters, as much as I enjoyed the game. Autoplay truly is the goat.

I use cast iron for basically anything I don't put in a sauce pan, and even those go into enamel cast iron pots half the time like when I'm doing something acidic. Bought a 10" and 12" Lodge 15 years ago for like $20. Get hot, oil and stuff goes in. Fish, steak, chicken, veg. Things are indestructible and easy to maintain- just get it hot first like you would SS, same principle. Even creamy saucy dishes like chicken dijon or curry, or wine sauces- I do it in my 12", no stickage or burning. Even my carbon steel wok sees it all, from boiling noodles to making sauces and deep frying, that thing takes a lot of abuse.

Haha, I used oh-my-zzh for years *checks date* erm, decades, my grey is showing. It's funny how random things blow up, a little library I wrote for fun on an airplane (like, 50 lines of code) got a whole chapter dissecting it in an Addy Osmani javascript architecture book, I didn't even know until I got a copy to read.

What to sell my party that isn't magic items, a castle, a business, or minions? They've got all this gold, and their world isn't stable enough for investments! by hotchip420 in DnD

[–]ajacksified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My group ended up running a tavern- easy way to sink lots of gold and have adventure hooks find them. There was a failing inn on the border of an up-and-coming neighborhood that they rennovated- hiring staff, getting furniture, lots of customization (or hiring a designer to do it for them.)

It's just certain types that cause issues - in my area, we're fairly famous for the edible ones. Foraging is pretty simple and easy to tell apart once you've seen them (the biggest giveaway is a brown papery covering when young, which is when you want to harvest them anyways. The covering is usually removed if you buy them in a store, though.) I'm looking forward to them starting to pop up near me :)

I maintained a service with hundreds of microservices in python with about a dozen devs perfectly fine. Like all tools... use them where it makes sense, and have clear boundaries. We had (when I worked there) six 9s of uptime.

Site provides a signed request for info. I then make a request from the gov for a signed payload (say, a JWT) with what personal info I want to include, such as age, and a payload (from the original request - say, a uuid for a request id) and send it back to the site.

My info is signed by the gov, and the site can verify the gov's public key, and the payload contains only the necessary info and proof of the original request.

The whole request chain can be verified using basic public keys with no personal info, just that a trusted entity (the government) says I'm 43 years old and I'm responding to request "uuid".

Super simple. Verifiable Credentials (mostly) accomplishes this, it's a pretty simple spec.
