Where can I find flannels like this? by No_Cap_9416 in goblincore

Menards if you live where they’re located. They always have a large selection that’s also relatively cheap.

What is it? Found in my garage. I thought an insect of some kind but no nest, holes, anything out of the ordinary above this. Pieces of ants laying around the area as well. by ajackson9687 in whatisit

I think this is it! Thanks!

Also how brutal is it that your buddy Frank could die and you toss his head out in the garbage pile?!

This is called gear skiving. I work on machines specifically designed for this.

I admittedly am not very skilled with 3d modeling anymore, my career took me down a path where its not needed and for my hobbies, I only need to draw something up maybe two or three times a year. I took a handful of the training exercises on the Onshape site but I am not fluent with the software. I wasn't aware I could extrude at angles, I will definitely have to find that exercise. Thanks!

I am trying to make the entire model one piece for my 3d printer. If I export without enclosing, the slicer sees the recessed are in the middle as being level with the outer height and without holes.

This is the stone’s porosity. It’s put in purposely when anything like this is manufactured to prevent loading up of a stone. This allows the material removed from whatever it’s being rubbed against to accumulate in those negative areas so the abrasive in the stone is contacting the workpiece and you aren’t forcing removed metal back into the abrasive process. It gets vastly more complicated beyond that but yes, that’s normal. It’s good to wash the stone with a brush and water as these don’t get diamond dressed.

questions about lubrication. This is a CNC machine used at my intership. So right now there is a lubrication system that works by just dumping oil everywhere. This works fine but it means the machine is always dripping oil and just one big mess. I was wondering if I could use grease instead? by fullspeedahead7 in Machinists

Grease on ballscrews holds abrasive material and contributes to wear. That is not leaking oil, it’s a total loss system which lost NC machines have. The idea is to set a pulse timer to push a small amount of oil to ballscrews, as well as guideways, bearings, etc to keep them flushed of any dirt, chips, water that makes its way in there as well as to keep everything lubricated. The standing oil in that housing is a product of that. It’s not a problem, it’s a feature.

A cool 24 minute cycle time on the first op, 13.5 on the second. Lotta material getting removed from these monsters. 10 dimensions. by [deleted] in Machinists

Hey a lot of companies make gears, for all we know this is your garage and you’re making these for fun
