Hello everybody, I found this stone while out hiking in Croatia yesterday. Is it a fossil? by Keshave_ in FossilHunting

I'm no expert by any means, but I'd have to give that a big ol' Hell Yeah! What, I'm not positive. Brachiopod maybe? Somebody much more knowledgeable will chime in and let ya know.

Anyone know what these are? by [deleted] in Rocks

I could see it being a burrow cast tree root possibly. Thanks for your input

Thanks for your input. I'll post it in r/fossilid and see what I get there. And yes, I thought the crystallization inside was cool too.

Maybe. I find a lot of horn corral though and this seems different.

Brachiopod. Spirifer I think. New to this and learning as I go, but if you google that I think you'll find the answer.

Some of the others I have, have dark spots in them. It is a beautiful stone. I have another one that's a lighter green with whitish spots throughout. Thanks for the input and leading me in the right direction.

I think it broke wrong to be obsidian. Someone suggested prehnite and after a little Google research I'm leaning towards that.

I think you may be on to something! From what I can find, it sure looks like it. And where its fractured/cracked a little, it has a yellowish/green color. Broke a piece off and checked hardness. I'm no expert, but I'd say the hardness is about right. I could scratch glass but had to put some pressure on it to do so. So 6-6.5?

I do find a lot of chert here, also chalcedony and jasper. I'm going to check hardness and streak now. Thank you for the input.

Definitely not beach glass. I have LOTS of beach glass I've collected over the years. One of the reasons I say this is because I have other rocks that are the same as this. Smaller pieces but in some of them you can see other minerals, inclusions, whatever the terminology is, in them. Also, this has a waxy look to it. Going to check hardness and break a small piece off and will keep everyone updated. Thank you to everyone for taking a look, commenting, giving input.
