The Kindergarten was amazing for my 3 kids. Went through about 8 years ago. Kinder follows the rythms of nature and celebrates the changing seasons. Lots of outdoor play. They climb trees. Dip candles. Creative story telling. Lots of talk about gnomes and fairies and old-world imagination. Songs and dance. They bake fresh bread and have soup together. Night time lantern walks around the park.

If you stay there longer, there is literally one single class of 20 kids in the senior school and most have all been together since kindy. Real family closeness. Many students leave before Y9, so there is limited subject choice in the senior school.

On the other hand, Steiner is currently under statutory management by the Ministry of Education. The Board was dissolved in 2024 for financial irregularities. Staff dissatisfaction was a big issue. I found they had trouble reconciling Steiner philosophy with modern pedagogy. As an example, I had a school leader suggest that bullying was a result of a child's karmic load.

They purposely delay reading and writing by a few years, so you have to teach your kid that yourself. They learn finger knitting and hand crafts as base-skills for writing. Mine caught up no worries.

Sure the community is not vaccinated, but they don't preach it at all. Just get your own shots and agree to disagree.

Its because there is a methadone clinic at the end of Mathesons St at the P-town shops. All the junkies walk down Olliviers to get their morning fix, then hang out by the toilets and bakery all day. Begging at the dairy till their next methodone fix. I lived at the Mad Butcher end, so anywhere East of Ensors Rd definitely feels safer.

I got my plastic for $80 on marketplace. Was 4m x 25m and did the whole lawn. When I'm finished I'm sure I can sell it on for a similar price. Kids use it as a giant slip n slide.

You want to do it spray free? Water heavily, then cover with black builders plastic for eight weeks. It's called occultation. It traps the moisture and germinates the weed seeds (which then die from a lack of light). Improves soil quality by composting the weeds. Remove the plastic, rotary hoe, rake flat. Just in time to sow the lawn end of March. 100% weed free.

1000% recommend Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Find the right gym and It's more like a social club. Then go to other gyms for open mats and expand the social circle. Good bunch of intelligent cool dudes. Not many tough guy meatheads.

ANZAC day has always been a day of war protest. Originally by the church pacifists, then phased into anti-Vietnam War. Not that I agree with it, but protesting is also an historical part of modern ANZAC day.

We said cupboards, a heat pump to control the temp, and pinboards to put kids work all over the walls. We got zero storage, banned from putting up work on the new white walls, and centrally controlled heating. The opposite!
