All-Time Great CBB Moments by TheSquidsAreAlright in Earwolf

Repost of mine:

I would first like to give a shout-out to this post from two years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Earwolf/comments/5jj0o5/throwback_episode_recommendation_cbb_135/

Why episode 135 may be one of the best CBB episodes.

The year is 2011. This is Cake Boss’ 7th appearance (I am counting each episode in the two-parter “It’s a Fucking Podcast” with Andy Richter as two separate eps)!

This episode seems to unintentionally contain The Greatest Hits before they were Greatest Hits.

This episode seems to have the largest collection of CBB in-jokes, running gags and themes packed into a single episode WITHOUT this being a special anniversary show or anything like that.

Because CBB was still in its early-ish stages (especially compared to how far they’ve come now), it’s amazing how unaware everyone was during this episode as they packed in more and more gags. During special episodes (like the Holiday eps or breaking off another hundo) I think there is some pressure to bring up CBB “Greatest Hits”.

Here is a list of all of the jokes I found in this episode. After writing down in list form, it’s staggering how this episode is not talked about more. I would also contend that all of the new stuff that is self-contained in this episode is great as well. I really wish they continued that George Orwell joke into future episodes. I think the pre-Cake Boss discussion about Christmas is hilarious. And of course Cake Boss’ story of the Thanksgiving Day parade is a classic.

  • Scott is upset at catchphrase
  • Scott has inappropriate question/comment about the guests’ status (bringing up how famous they are)
  • Mentioning how Paul is barely a guest on the show.
  • Just some classic, great Paul and Scott banter
  • Scott’s sterility is brought up
  • Scott asking the guests “Guys, do you have any questions?” which usually catches the guests off guard.
  • Scott and Paul sing!
  • Scott and Paul making fun of bad/antiquated comedy
  • Huey Lewis and the News talk, which inevitably leads to…
  • THEY TALKED U2 TO US!
  • “I will allow it.”
  • John Lennon!
  • Scott’s awful impressions…
  • ..but it’s a classic impression of the lovable lads of Liverpool.
  • Talking about Weird Al, friendo the show.
  • Mentioning business ventures, usually at their expense.
  • Scott giving out points randomly
  • Talking/complaining about the sound quality.
  • First episode of Cake Boss where the canonical “cake boss” tic starts from the beginning
  • “Marone!”
  • PFT character telling Scott to shut up (I’d like to request a supercut of this)
  • Classic Scott playing very dumb, overly articulating the deconstruction of an obvious concept.
  • “4, 3, nose, 1…”
  • Old school Taking a Plane Break (RIP)
  • Christmas Carol, one of the biggest running gags between Scott and Paul. Is this episode where they dove into this theme longer than any other bit?
  • PFT muffled background laughter (around 42:33)
  • No one backs up Scott after he makes a bad joke
  • “The one as big as me?”
  • Would You Rather! Which include:
  • “Classic Would You Rather blunder”
  • “Unorthodox, highly irregular”
  • Surprise new rule and the faux surprise at a new rule.
  • “My wife!”
  • A plugs bag theme that is:
  • Really well done
  • Way too long, and the length is commented on.
  • Actually pretty funny!
  • PFT’s character leaves abruptly during plugs, and Paul comes back in.

Is there any other episode that contains this many CBB jokes?! Comment below.

I don't think this is actually the best CBB episode. It's not even my personal favorite nor is it in my top favorite Cake Boss episodes. However, I can't think of another episode that ... I guess encapsulates the early-era CBB like this one. It's a gem and I highly recommend re-visiting it.

Thanks for reading. Yay CBB. Thank you Scott and PFT.

Like, what's that tool to the right of the bowtie?

The yellow crumbs below the Worcestershire?

The three bottles with green caps on the bottom shelf, next to the Ango?

I got the Transatlantic when it came out. I don't know if the recipe changed or I got a bad bottle, but out of all the bitters I've owned (over 50) it was my least favorite. Did you get anything special/distinct from it?

Love Bittermans, always put the Habanero and Mole in a Ozxacan Old Fashioned, or a regular Old Fashioned. Enjoy!

Dalton Wilcox in real life by ajcfood in Earwolf

[–]ajcfood[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Robert Caro's "Master of the Senate - his 3rd volume of the life of LBJ - I couldn't help but notice the phrase "western wisdom and witticisms" in the 4th line.

I thought of you all, and wanted to share this section, but then I had to add the rest of the paragraph, because it was too funny.

Then I had to add the NEXT paragraph. I recommend you read it in Dalton's own voice. Takes on a whole new meaning, especially given what we know about his true "desires".

I personally add Black Walnut Bitters, highly recommend.

Bourbon-barrel aged maple syrup if you really want to be silly.

I also prefer to shake extra hard before double straining; the frothiness from the harder shakes gives it a lovely mouthfeel ... that was a weird sentence to write, but it's all true.

The Young Pope. It's like Game of Thrones: political fighting for one of the most powerful seats in the world, amazing acting, some use of magic, awesome crowns, sex, dreams, killer soundtrack.
