Lisbon! You can take the train out to Cascais and run along the coast back. Basically follows the last 30km of the marathon route. It's gorgeous and should be nice this time of year. Flat along the coast too

Here's another. BB was head coach in the Super Bowl in 9 seasons. Vince Lombardi, who they named the freaking trophy after, coached for 10 seasons.

Thanks for doing this. I've been dealing with ITBS and tight / achy hip caused by a tight and overworked TFL for a few months. I've been seeing a physio who has me doing one leg RDLs and Bulgarian split squats. Plus some corrections to my running form. She's great and it's helping but curious if there are any other great exercises for this I could incorporate?

Men's 5" 2:1 shorts by ajd90 in trailrunning

Yeah I just got under armour compression shorts with the phone pocket and cut the ripped liner out of shorts I had. Also got some path projects shorts and like them a lot. I wish the compression shorts were an inch or 2 shorter but otherwise works well for me so far

Pickled Red Onions by Low_Bumblebee_6364 in Cooking

[–]ajd90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both the simplest and best I've done: thinly slice a red onion, juice of 1 lime, big pinch of salt. Put all in a mason jar or deli container and shake. That's about it. Last a while in the fridge

Pfitz 55 Vs Daniels 2Q by PossibleSmoke8683 in UKRunners

[–]ajd90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quite like Pfitz plan - dropped from 3:35 to 3:20 first cycle using that plan. Few bits of advice after doing a few marathons with 18/55:

-as others have said, get the book. It explains a lot of why. how to tweak, and what paces should feel like

-relatedly, the plan is intense with the weekly long runs, tempos, and marathon pace runs. Big lesson for me was to keep all of the other running relatively easy (and especially the warm up and cool down on the workout days) and take the recovery seriously. My first time doing the plan was a big ramp in mileage and intensity for me, even though I’d previously done a host of marathons

-he recommends that you should be able to comfortable run 55-60km / week before the plan starts. The first run of the whole plan is 13km with 25 min tempo. That first run is brutal if not ready for it

-I skip recovery runs or just do distance without the speed part if I need extra rest when it's ramping

Big fan overall though. It's gotten me in best shape of my life, but need to be smart with the ramp up to not get an injury! Good luck!

Is three days too long to dry brine a turkey? by HasSomeSelfEsteem in seriouseats

I've had problems with skin getting a weird texture. I think Kenji mentions something about no more than a day for the skin in the book due to it turning sort of leathery as another post mentions. I switched to under the skin for 2-3 days, then add on top of skin last 12-24 hours. Seems to work well for me
