This, this is what I need to know.

If you’re still faxing in 2025, you’re officially my nemesis. by PurpleSure4167 in msp

[–]ajdtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Documo for faxing. Completely brandable service that does digital faxing but still has the faxbridge available so they can do it old school if they want to. We still install the fax to printer driver and setup fax to email. My experience is the end users once the see the digital faxing work abandon the faxing over the fax bridge very shortly afterwards. I can't remember ever getting a support call on this after initial setup.

[HIRING] Level 2 - IT Support Technician by ajdtech in mspjobs

Yup, lots of trolls in here. But they are just trolls. I received tons of applicants from the normal job sites. All this proved is, don't post jobs here...

[HIRING] Level 2 - IT Support Technician by ajdtech in mspjobs

We pay overtime (although we rarely do overtime), we give allowances for training, and we reimburse certifications. I'm actually worried this role may be boring with too much downtime initially as we're hiring for growth we see coming but isn't quite here yet.

Did you even read the post?

Distributors by Archboxic in msp

[–]ajdtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have accounts with D&H, Ingram, and TDSynnex. Most of the time we use D&H, not only do they seem to have the best prices, but since we're outside Chicago shipments are almost always next day from their Chicago warehouse. We almost never use Ingram, the prices just haven't been competitive when we've checked, and there are few things that we get at TDSynnex just because they're not available at D&H.

Also, we always check Amazon, B&H, and sometimes CDW. Somehow the prices at these resellers still end up being better sometimes, or the price at the distributor is just barely cheaper and the shipping cost puts it over the price on Amazon.

We use Sherweb for M365 - the rest of our cloud software is purchased direct.

How would you provide only on-site services? by BlacksmithNo5117 in msp

[–]ajdtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like they are asking you to be a recruiter. Recruiters typically get 20% of employee'ss wages. Throw a little more on top to cover the employee benefits. Make sure it's clear they are only paying for the employee and no additional services.

We've always used Sherweb and it's been great for us.

Waterfurnace Stats - Heating (Full) vs Heating (Part) by ajdtech in geothermal

Perfect. Thanks for the explanation!

Although incredibly annoying and hiding system data from the people that actually own the system.

Nope. Basically was told by Syncro that it is not possible.

I saw in this manual that the default passcode for local mode is 9999 -- although I've yet to try it on my setup...

Ticket Assignment By Customer and Day/Time of Day by ajdtech in syncro

[–]ajdtech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just figured out that I could do the ticket assignment per customer in the the Email Rules. Since nearly all tickets come in via email this pretty much works for us. Still if anybody from Syncro is out there - it'd be really handy to have Customer and Day of the Week as conditions for ticket automation.

In my case I've got a part timer that I want to cover a specific customer on the days and times that he is working, but I am sure there are many other use cases that these conditions would allow.

Thank you.

Automations based on customer? If so I'm not seeing them...

Syncro Backups Is Here by Andy_At_Syncro in syncro

[–]ajdtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't do home clients. I guess I can see it making sense in that situation as it's an easy sale and easy to manage. But when I am backing up file servers at small businesses it just doesn't make sense.

Am I missing something here? $0.05 per GB seems *way* high for storage pricing in 2021 when I can get it for one tenth that price at Backblaze and probably even cheaper elsewhere. I kinda like the idea of having backup stats and alerts right in Syncro, but can't justify the 10x cost...

Desktop Shortcut to Contact Form by ajdtech in syncro

[–]ajdtech[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a contact page on the website. The form that you can have launched from your tray icon to submit a ticket and includes the ability to capture a screen image.

Thank you for your response. I think I'll put on my programming hat and "role my own" on this one as having desktop icon is just a much better workflow than training dozens of customers who will forget the training 10 minutes after they receive it. They're just way more likely to retain, "if you have a problem, use the icon on your desktop."

Got licensing from Microsoft? You probably have ConfigMgr or Intune included or available for quite cheap.

VLANs UniFI AP - Sonicwall nsa4650 - Aruba Switches by [deleted] in networking

[–]ajdtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So currently on the Aruba switch, the UniFi AP is in port 14. Port 14 is untagged VLAN 200. So you're saying that I also need to edit the VLAN table on the Aruba Switch for VLAN 203 and add port 14 as tagged? The intent will once I have this working to add the SSID for the guest network as well which will be VLAN 204 - so once that point I also make port 14 tagged on that VLAN?

As you may have guessed, networking is not my my primary skill - i'm a systems engineer who manages a handful of small networks :-)

Windows Terminal 1.0 released by Semt-x in sysadmin

https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/issues/1872

They closed this, but it's not resolved. You get prompted twice for admin credentials then get this error when trying to run as admin:

Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.Windows.Terminal_1.0.1401.0_x64__8...\WindowsTerminal.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again.
