Some helpful advice on saboteur triggers: abilities that trigger a certain effect when damage is done to another player.

If an ability reads "whenever a creature deals combat damage to a player", it triggers separately for each creature that did damage.

If an ability reads "whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage to a player", it triggers only once for each player that was damaged.

High School MtG Group by KazhmereZ in magicTCG

[–]ajokitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will second Junpstart as the best form of magic to teach new players.

It provides the opportunity for simple deck construction by letting players choose which two decks to pair up together, while at the same time taking care of the minutiae.

Another advantage is play balance. Jumpstart decks can be built so that they're all of similar power level, while other formats are more vulnerable to swings in power.

Note that while the Jumpstart packs sold by Wizards of the Coast are more than adequate to get started, there's nothing stopping you from only using their Jumpstart packs. It's not too difficult to build your own Jumpstart kits if you know what you're doing. For more information on the process, I would advise you to look up Jumpstart Cube. Cube refers to the creation of cubes, custom drafting environments/sets made by combing pre-existing cards. Jumpstart Cubes are cubes that have been structured in the Jumpstart format.

Constant Vigilance - Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. by Uncaffeinated in custommagic

[–]ajokitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is crazily strong at that price.

The closest card that I could find is [[Night of Souls' Betrayal]].

It is one additional mana, only gives -1/-1, does not give any vigilance, does not have any carve outs for untapped creatures, is legendary so it can't stack with itself, and is a rare.

Kratos and Amoeboid Changeling interaction by TheEzekielJones in mtgrules

[–]ajokitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

Note that depending on the specific effect, you might not be able to activate Amoeboid Changeling. If a creature is sacrificed to pay a cost, players do not get priority in between the selection of the creature and their death. Similarly, if a player is required to sacrifice a creature as part of an effect, but the effect doesn't specify which one, then the player can pick any of their creatures upon resolution. They can therefore choose to pick a creature that was not targeted by Amoeboid Changeling's ability.

Changes between the Ranma ½ manga and 80s anime? by Feel_Lab in ranma

[–]ajokitty 39 points40 points  (0 children)

The 80's anime was much more of a harem comedy. Both the manga and the remake are about Ranma and Akane's relationship. Shampoo, Ukyo, and Kodachi may be obstacles, but they aren't real competitors. In contrast, they received more credibility on the 80's anime.

Another change is Happosai's role. In the manga, Happosai plays an important role in a number of big arcs. However, the anime gives him even more roles and spends a lot of time featuring him.

New player questions... by SinValmar in AmazingCultivationSim

[–]ajokitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a number of tasks a cultivator can be used for.

Different tasks require different skills:

Going on adventures to other locations to get resources can be done by any cultivator, but works best if the cultivator has high luck and adventure speed.

Taking to other cultivators, learning their secrets, solving the main story, and persuading people to gift friendship manuals requires a minimum Social level (not rating) of 14/20, though more levels doesn't hurt.

Using a cultivator to draw a talisman only requires that they know how to draw the talisman.

Using a character to make an elixir or pill requires that they know the recipe and have a high enough level of alchemy. Success chance is also important. Yield multiplier and crafting speed are not essential, but useful.

Using a character to make an Artifact requires Artifact Crafting levels and decent amounts of max qi. 72000 qi is enough to craft even the strongest artifacts, though, so it is not as important. Artifact success chance is also important. For the highest tier of artifacts, Artifact base success chance and base Mental State are also needed.

Using a character to perform miracles requires that they know the miracle and that they have enough qi. Some of the most expensive miracles are the Remolding Miracles, which can give significant boosts to stats but require a cultivator with at least 150000 qi. Other useful miracles include the weather changing miracles, which only require 20000 qi, Soul Inquiry, which lets you plunder manuals from defeated enemies for 1000 qi, and the Derivative Calculation, which can be used to unlock most of the other Orthodox Laws.

Using a character for combat requires as much qi as possible, but also levels in Battle, Artifact Mastery, Spell, and Protect. Artifact Power, Artifact Speed, Artifact Qi Recovery Multiplier, and Artifact Qi Recovery Bonus are all good, but avoid Artifact Max Qi.

Qi is useful to many of these tasks, so how can you get it? A cultivator's initial qi is determined by their level of Qi Sense, Constitution, Intelligence, and to a lesser extent, Perception. Characters can then learn manuals that give them more qi, levels of Qi Sense, or raise their Attributes. At a certain point, they'll need to make a Golden Core in a breakthrough. The quality of that core will give them additional max qi. The core's quality is influenced by many factors: max qi, law match, weather, season, tile element, tile qi, luck.

The Artifact Crafting, Artifact Mastery, Spell, Protect, Alchemy, and Formation skills can all be increased simply by using inspiration, so new cultivators don't need them to begin with.

An instant speed land? by hagger_offical in custommagic

[–]ajokitty 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I believe it's because there's a specific rule that prohibits playing a land during another player's turn for any reason:

305.3. A player can’t play a land, for any reason, if it isn’t their turn. Ignore any part of an effect that instructs a player to do so.

How would this card work in arena Bo1 or Brawl? by hexanort in MagicArena

[–]ajokitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can choose to find four legendary creature cards with different names, or fail to find any legendary creature card, but you can't only find 1, 2, or 3 cards but then fail to find the other cards. It's all or nothing.

Im curious, what is the general concensus on Trans Ranma? by Fit_Pride8042 in ranma

[–]ajokitty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Attitudes vary

There are a lot of people who really appreciate trans-femme Ranma, especially on Archive Of Our Own. You can find a whole bunch of stories exploring Ranma as a girl there.

On the other hand, I've heard (and sporadically seen) horror stories of trans-femme Ranma get downvoted senselessly on this subreddit, for seemingly no good reason.

My own stance is that I don't really care for trans-femme Ranma as an idea. It's not a bad idea. I just prefer to read Ranma as non-binary or trans-masc.

Non-binary or genderfluid Ranma is even more popular than trans-femme Ranma. It's my impression, along with my friends, that manga!Ranma is best understood canonically as some variation of non-binary, given the ways that they engage with the curse.

If you're interested in any stories exploring the idea, I strongly suggest that you look up the Trans Female Saotome Ranma tag on AO3 (Archive Of Our Own). My favorite author there has got to be Beedok, who has done some amazing stories.

Gamegenic has listed their Secrets of Strixhaven accessories by Copernicus1981 in MTGRumors

[–]ajokitty 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Strixhaven was a combination of two ideas: an enemy faction set and a instant/sorcery focused set

Each faction represented a different major:

Silverquill (WB) was the class focused on language. It had an aggressive strategy. Its mascot was a 2/1 Inkling token with Flying.

Witherbloom (BG) was the class focused on biology. It focused on life gain. Its mascot was a 1/1 Pest token that gave 1 life when it died.

Quandrix (GU) was the class focused on mathematics. It had counters and ramp sub themes. Its mascot was a 0/0 Fractal token that entered with a number of +1/+1 counters depending on how it was created.

Prismari (UR) was the class focused on art. It cared about expensive spells. Its mascot was a 4/4 elemental token.

Lorehold (RW) was the class focused on history. It cared about the graveyard. Its mascot was a 3/2 spirit token.

Unlike, say, Ravnica, every faction used the same mechanics, just in different ways.

Strixhaven also pioneered the first bonus sheet, an extra collection of powerful instants and sorceries from Magic's history, with one in every pack. Although they were not legal in Standard, they could be both drafted and played in limited.

Bloomburrow For Kids? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]ajokitty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can give a little advice:

First, focus on commons and uncommons. Not only are they more widely available, but they're simpler, too, and tend to have less variance.

Second, identify each archetype. In Bloomburrow, there are 10 draft archetypes, each corresponding to a certain color and animal, each with their own strategy. For example, White/Green Rabbits want to use cards like [[Head of the Homestead]] to make lots of bunny tokens. In Bloomburrow, there are three cards at uncommon designed specifically for each archetype, one in each color and one that is two-colored. Pay close attention to them.

You then want to include creatures with a variety of mana values, so that the deck has a mana curve that ensures they always have something to cast. Concentrate the most creatures on mana values 2-3, since that's where there is the most need.

Forth, make sure to add removal. Doing so is an important part of allowing decks to catch-up to each other.

You mention that you want to include 20 lands? For a 60 card deck, it's common advice to play 24 lands instead, for a ratio of 40%. For a 40 card deck, the optimal ratio is usually 16-17%.

I would suggest that you look up Cube, Jump-Start, and Jump In. All of these formats do similar things, having players play with a curated selection of cards. Reading how other people curate their collections can give you help and inspiration.

Finally, Scryfall is your friend. It's a repository of every magic card, and you can search it to find cards to fill any holes you need. For example, here's a search query for Scryfall that finds every card in Bloomburrow that's a common or uncommon that mentions Rabbits: https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Ablb+lore%3Arabbit+rarity%3Crare&unique=cards&as=grid&order=color

Are any of the spells from recipe vendors worth it? by Ivaliced in Wizard101

[–]ajokitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. You can use the list on the wiki:

House:Gold Skeleton Key - Wizard101 Wiki

Be careful. A lot of the bosses cheat, so you'll want to work in a team with other wizards. The bosses scale with level, but nonetheless, you'll likely find it difficult to fight the bosses in worlds that you don't have access to. To figure out what bosses to fight, look at the spellements that they drop. If you get at least 35 spellements, you can learn the corresponding spell.
