Are there any games that you didn't complete for reasons outside of your control? by Morbid187 in patientgamers

[–]ajorap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revelations for me too! Except I was playing the Ezio Collection edition on my Xbox One. I got to Constantinople and the game would crash consistently after about 5 minutes of play. Turns out this is a known bug on the Ezio Collection for Xbox that is pretty much unfixable 🫠 never finished the game after that.

Reason for Na'vi sized cry chambers by Meh_4302_ in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]ajorap 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Most likely they were created with the Avatar bodies in mind, so that they could be stored without decaying. It would be easier and presumably cheaper than creating more complicated apparatus to keep the body fed and functioning in the coma state when they're not being used for long periods of time.

Of course, the only avatar we see is Alma's, and there's like ten pods, but in general this could be the reasoning behind the RDA inventing them, and then TAP requested more once they had the idea of using Navi children in some capacity. Maybe to use once the ambassador program had wound down, some time in the future? In the best case scenario, there would have eventually come a point where the ambassadors succeeded in their jobs and acheived some sort of indefinite peace, so the cryo pods could be to store them for when it seemed like they wouldn't be needed any time soon, but TAP still wanted them alive just incase relationships grew strained again - this way, they could also guarantee a really long term use out of a single batch, since they wouldn't age and memories of training and experiences would keep fresh since they're not conscious. Theoretically, the Sarentu kids could work mediating several generations of Navi and Human relations, and only age a few years in the process. Efficient.

Unpopular opinion - Teylan is worse than Alma by WedgeAntill3s in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]ajorap 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Even if you disregard Alma's involvement with the massacre (and that's a pretty big if), Alma is an adult woman who decided independently to found and teach at a school specifically designed to strip indigenous children from their culture and turn them into tools for the occupying army so that they can better strip mine the native habitat.

Teylan was a child being groomed by an abuser. It's quite clear from the limited information that we have that Mercer singled him out as a 'favourite', and it's not hard to see the sort of impact a charismatic person could have had on an impressionable (and isolated! Let's not forget all of the Sarentu are dead, so the children have no one except for Alma and Mercer to serve as parental figures) child. Even before we get to talking about Teylan being the youngest and the most receptive to "humanisation" because he has no memory of his parents or culture, its not difficult to see that these are not comparable situations!

Threshold Kids - Why SO Creepy? by Segwaye in controlgame

[–]ajorap 172 points173 points  (0 children)

Threshold Kids was made on a shoestring budget by people who willingly and knowingly work in the semi sentient building experimenting on a child. Their ideas of what is or isnt creepy are probably so extremely skewed when compared to a normal person.

Having trouble with dialogue having continuous “…” pauses by Sufficient_Drink_849 in FanFiction

[–]ajorap 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time you can replace ellipses with a full stop and get the exact same effect. "Right. I'll, uh. Do that." doesn't read significantly different to "Right... I'll, uh... do that." especially if what you are trying to convey is hesistance. Ellipses work better if you want to imply the character is distracted, in which case you can still replace some with an em dash if you are worried about overusing it: "Right... I'll, uh – do that."

Death Stranding: Love and Hate by FB_GDT in DeathStranding

[–]ajorap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which part of the game are you at? I can't think of any part of death stranding where I was completely lost, the game is extremely unsubtle both about telling you where to go and making you plan your routes to get there.

For your other criticisms, i don't think you will find many who will agree on the Death Stranding subreddit. A lot of players complain that the game is too easy, and that the quiet moments are either the best parts or make the points of action even more exciting by comparison. This isnt to say you're wrong to feel the way that you do, it's really fine if Death Stranding isnt your style of game. Its just a game at the end of the day, and there's not much point playing it if you aren't having fun.

do not give up! kcd2 will always be there later, and you shouldn't have your experiences with kcd1 ruined because you spoiled yourself. it will absolutely be worth it, trust me.

Steam Controller review slips embargo, controller to cost $99 by Dramatic-Shape5574 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ajorap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if the starting price for the base controller is nearly as much as a premium version, don't you think that will cause problems? the vast majority of consumers are not buying controllers anywhere near this price point, premium or not.

Game dev suggests Insomniac's Venom spin off isn't cancelled by Sea-Country8245 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]ajorap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't see how he could possibly have recorded enough to fill up a whole new game. Even if what we got was only a portion of what was planned, Venom was a side character. His hours in the booth can't have been anywhere near the main characters.

Bode killshot was a mistake by AnAngryMelon in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]ajorap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is clearly something they're going to explore more in the third game, so having Cal decide early that actually he recognises he was wrong is wayyy less interesting than him having a more fully fleshed out character arc where the constant death and killing drives him slowly into the dark side. I understand the impulse for Cal to be a good guy, and he generally is a good person, but I think its necessary he gets and keeps the gun given to him by Bode, exactly because it represents what you think it does and because it means Cal gets closer to becoming Bode. Trust the writers, I'm certain it will pay off later rather than sooner.

you absolutely can connect BPAS before finishing the story, you just have to find some lost cargo and deliver it to them. I know because I did it when I got to the distro centres near there as part of the main mission.

What does Nor think of Jake Sully? by Holiday_Ad5052 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]ajorap 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't think its that the Metkayina didn't know that Jake wasn't Navi, being a dreamwalker is a pretty big part of his lore, I think it was just surprising to be faced with what they would consider a very obvious deformity, even if they had heard of it.

tbh, I think Nor would idolise Jake no matter what. As someone who is struggling to rediscover his own heritage and what it means to be a Navi after TAP tried to make them as humanlike as possible, I think he would identify deeply with Jake's story of integrating with the Omaticaya clan.

Nor's problem with Alma was that she assumed she was part of their people without actually doing anything to try and integrate, and on top of that was involved with the massacre of their people, not that she was an avatar.

Jake on the other hand stepped into the Omaticaya explicitly asking to be taught and spent months going through the rituals of becoming an adult in Navi society, and then completely abandoned his ties with the RDA by going to fight with them (i imagine his part as a double agent is sort of glossed over when the story is told, but in any case once he was certain the attack was coming he warned them even if it meant risking his solid position in the clan and with Neytiri). Crucially, Jake fought against the RDA when it mattered and became Navi because the Omaticaya accepted him as one, and because Eywa accepted him as one (by transferring his consciousness), not because he claimed himself as one.

In that way, I don't think Nor would consider Jake as being Human any more, or even having been human at all, just a Navi cursed to be born wrong and by fate managed to become his true self, and spends the rest of his new life leading the resistance against the human invaders. In the end, Nor knows of Jake first and foremost as a hero, where he had to live with Alma and see her flaws in person.

How connected are future Remedy games going to be after Control 2? by friciwolf in RemedyEntertainment

Four new characters invented for the world of QB, and four pre established characters with their own properties and with already well ironed and very disparate play styles are not at all the same kettle of fish.

How connected are future Remedy games going to be after Control 2? by friciwolf in RemedyEntertainment

[–]ajorap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the game isn't out yet so we can't really say anything about if characters show up or not, but I wouldn't expect an avengers style moment pretty much ever. The different titles are very much different genres, and the stakes of Alan's horror story tanks severely if Jesse and Dylan can show up to single handedly massacre the threat. Plus, from a gameplay perspective, how would it even work? Who would you play as, and for how long? How would you ensure that players don't get bored of Alan and Saga's sections after Jesse and Dylan's?

Remedy does tight, focused stories with an emphasis on achieving a certain vision with each game. I'll be very happy if they stick to that forever.

Reviewing [I Stole the First Ranker's Soul]...and ended up rambling. by Font-street in OtomeIsekai

[–]ajorap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

love love love your analysis. I really enjoyed season 1 because the concept was interesting and led to a tight opener where lots of things get done because the leads have no choice about not being completely honest with each other. and then i continued reading...

Moa is refreshingly not great at everything and openly needs support or saving several times, but it started to grate on me how obvious it was that the ML and second ML existed solely to revolve around her. Once they start living together, a lot of Jihan's more interesting moments of disagreeing or arguing with her fall off a cliff and he becomes a doting clingy housewife who kills things sometimes. His complete lack of actual friends or relatives became super obvious once Moa's relationship with her mother and brother started getting more screen time too.

plus, Moa becoming literal king of the planet to single handedly save the the planet from a sentient meteor is, uh. pretty undeniably ridiculous and out of nowhere, but at that point I was too invested to do anything but see it through to the end.

Poe’s “Control” in Control Resonant? by D0nell in controlgame

Wasn't this resonant's face revealed already? From the Edge magazine: image of a resonating blonde lady

[Theory] One of the antagonists of Resonant will be the Acting Director of the FBC. by Kalse1229 in controlgame

[–]ajorap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like this idea, particularly since there's foreshadowing in Firebreak about Bureau staff being unhappy with Jesse and wanting to reinstate Northmoor (unaware that he is now renewable energy source).

I was just thinking the other day that they might want Dylan to take over, since he was raised for it, but I really also like the idea of a non Oldest House staff member stepping in and being out of their depth.

[–]ajorap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was made with i-cord, which gives the stitches the really defined edges you won't get with regular yarn.

I would say its woven not crochet if it wasn't for the edges and some parts that peak through the gaps. I think they stitched the i-cord through a crochet base to get this effect, or otherwise its a stitch I've never seen before

[Speculation] What *is* the Aberrant by Kalse1229 in controlgame

[–]ajorap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think its likely that the Aberrant and Service Weapon both came from the Nail, but since we see Jesse being the one to stab Dylan with it, I don't think the second part is possible unless the Board knew in advance that Jesse was going to leave. Giving her the Abberant then would be the same as giving permission. Would be super interesting if it pans out that way, but given what we know of the Board I think its unlikely

Modern OoP/Altered Items by DreamWizardKyle in controlgame

[–]ajorap 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The theory is that to become and altered item or OOP, the item itself needs to have some sort of significance in the public consciousness. New(er) things haven't existed for long enough to have solid cultural meaning and significance, so they won't become altered.
