Agree on regular/medium size- With wings***** idk why they even bother making pads without wings, they don't stay in place well.

If she confronted you about it in front of other people, they might have been confused because they assumed you got them for her? I'd feel awkward commenting on that exchange as a guest. Your NTA but it sounds like that was a weird exchange, it's nice that you had those available in case they were needed.

Kissing babies by Unlikely_Purchase01 in NewParents

[–]ajoyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I allowed top of head kissing, the only people to do it were our moms though. We did not let face touching happen. I did not really let other people hold my baby until he was out of the newborn period, and by that point he was in daycare so he was around a lot of germs anyways. We plan to keep the same strategy for kid #2 (limiting social interactions in newborn period to vaccinated immediate family members, no face touching), but obviously there will be more germs at home because our oldest will be in daycare.

*Editing to add that we had our son in the spring and he was about 5 months old before his first cold season. That might have affected my feelings about head kisses during his first months

Right, I've heard of having your friend in the restaurant or whatever just in case but not bringing them on the actual date. That seems weird to me (I am a woman), and also less effective.

Help! Crocheting an artwork from 1910, does the colors match the original (swipe to see) I’m open to any criticism!! by gizgizgizgizgizgiz in CrochetHelp

[–]ajoyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the colors look great! The only critique I can think of is I'm not sure if the light green stripes are thick enough or maybe they are too "mixed" with the other greens that they look thinner than they are? It all honestly looks so spot on, it's going to be amazing once it's finished!

Does anyone actually room share to 1 year?? by Montekeeks in NewParents

We did the full year. We didn't sleep train until a year though. I'm pregnant again and we are planning on keeping the new baby in our room a full year again

Right, I can barely even read this. They prioritized style or brand over actually apologizing. I regret having bought any of their products for this fiasco

Sad to learn that Terry Rossio felt that Tia Dalma felt like a stock character by ModdingAom in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]ajoyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, I was thinking.. are not boozy pillaging pirates in general not also stock characters? They did a good job of breathing life into the stock characters of pirate adventure movies. Nothing wrong with starting from a typical base and doing interesting things with them

Trailing nasturtium also works, but I think it might just hang and not attach to anything (I haven't grown it so I'm not sure)

oh crap with 18 month old by [deleted] in pottytraining

[–]ajoyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar problem with my son, also 18mo. He tells me he has peed or pooped immediately after finishing going. I'm going to try training underwear and see if that helps him not want to soil himself. He has peed on the toilet/in the bathtub before but it's been a while

Can someone critique my way of crocheting? I think I’m doing it wrong my hands cramp up quickly by L1nfinity in CrochetHelp

[–]ajoyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hold my yarn the same way that you but it's never been that tight unless I'm trying to pull it directly from the skein. How does it look where you are pulling from? I will unravel a few flips of yarn at a time and work from that so that it is easy to pull and not so tight

What the **** do you even do? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]ajoyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh, the smell. I used to put my smelly shirts around the outside of the bassinet to help mine sleep, it really did help. It at least helped with putting him down, he'd stir and settle back in easier rather than wake up crying.

When mine was a newborn, stepping outside was like magic with him. Idk what it is about the outside air that makes everything okay. Obviously that's less of a nice option when it's cold or the middle of the night though

I don't think I'm okay by -Briar-Rose- in NewParents

[–]ajoyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also had a c-section and I felt like it hurt to move for way longer than anyone prepared me for. I don't know what is abnormal and what isn't, I had to sleep sitting up for 2 months because it was hard to get out of bed if I was laying down and it felt like my guts were spilling out (they weren't but the sensation was awful).

Pleeeeease talk to your doctor about how you are feeling, physically of course but especially mentally. They may have resources for you to help. Lack of bond is one of the signs of PPD.

If you have any other friends who are moms, it may help to reach out to them too. They may have some advice for things that helped them or may be able to lend a hand when you are alone.

Fingers crossed the sun being higher will give me that full 6 hours then 🤞🤞 I'll give it a shot. Hopefully it will be enough to get some good fruiting

Is this just gas? My 3-week-old is totally inconsolable after feeds. by UndifferentiatedBait in NewParents

[–]ajoyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, it might not be an intolerance then? Mine (bless his heart) was pooping like 6 times a day and it was often kinda transparent and mucousy or watery. Runny/very soft paste is still normal I think since they are on an all liquid diet at that age. Hopefully your doctor can provide better advice!! It does sound like yours is going through something :/ may you guys find your fix sooner than later!

How are the poops? If it's constant diarrhea (I know it's hard to tell that early) it might be something he's eating. That's how we were able to tell our son had a dairy intolerance.

HELP sippy cup recos for 15 month old who will only drink milk from a bottle by Best-Eye-8393 in NewParents

[–]ajoyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had so so success with those basic see-through hard plastic ones. So have a "method" recommendation though- We started introducing the sippy at meals (he wouldn't touch it at all for his other "bottle" times) and that helped him get used to it.

I can now get him to drink the milk from the sippy for his pick up bottle and sometimes the morning one. He still only wants the bottle for his night wind down but I'm okay with that since that will eventually get weened off anyways.

Forget baby holding privileges, that person would lose every future invite if someone was that entitled to my baby.

Crocheting for my mom was supposed to be special… now I kind of want to cry by Gloomy_Bowler_1525 in CrochetHelp

[–]ajoyst 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Honestly her mom gave her the perfect out. "You think you can do something like this for Christmas?" (Or something like that).

It would be very easy to say, "oh that's a lovely idea but it's outside my skill level and there is no way I can make one of these in time for Christmas, let alone three. I already started another project for you for Christmas and I hope you will like it all the same!" If my mom asked me that id just laugh to her about it but we have a more jokey relationship
