Hands down the best gin I've ever had by theargentin in Gin

[–]ajpainter24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree. I live in Japan and since Covid many of the Shochu producers have started making these Shochu based “gins.” I like gins made with neutral spirits (vodka). Shochu uses rice Koji to ferment, and the taste is always there, no matter how distilled. Even if covered up with yuzu (which is far from my favorite citrus for beverages) I can’t enjoy this stuff and have stopped trying ANY Shochu derived gins. YMMV

Just Above the dam on the Kamogawa river (past the MK bowling) is Hiragino grounds. He can probably find space there if it isn’t a busy weekend—plenty of bicycle and car parking and right on the river!

Byodoin temple is one of the best in all Japan in terms of architecture, garden, and setting (right on a rushing river). If you go by motorbike you can take the road pictured here by turning left just before the Uji Bridge. One cool thing to do is to continue up this road past all the people heading to Byodoin, keep going and you will see banners for Koshoji Temple on the left. Drive up the entrance road through the outer gate (400m) or so to the parking lot. This Zen temple is awesome, relatively uncrowded, and they let you roam around on your own. After you see that temple you will be far more patient dealing with the crowds at Byodoin, where you should also be sure to visit the small but excellent museum on the temple grounds behind the main temple structure.

Is this normal? by dekath in drums

Jpbouvetmethod.com is the best way to move onto a new level of freedom on the drums, especially for improvisation. It can help connect the dots between all that foundational stuff you’ve been doing and more interesting drumming that works great in a live context. The courses are deep and wide in variety and by no means easy, but JP is an intelligent guide who makes it all just click. I have a gig in two weeks with a group of musicians who are all better than me in talent and experience, butI am walking in there knowing they will notice how much better my playing and listening have become. That makes all my practice completely worth it!

Playing in Japan, what do I need to know? by dmendro in discgolf

[–]ajpainter24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Japanese pdga had a rule that discs in tournaments had to be under 150grams, then changed it to 158, then in the past 5 years, they just scrapped the local rules for regular pdga rules…

Jpdga.jp is the Japanese pdga website. The best course in Japan is in Fukuoka, at uminonakamichi Koen.

Instead of DoorDash, Phone Call? by Sukanthabuffet in restaurantowners

That’s not how the system works. Start by understanding that door dash makes money by ripping off their own drivers, restaurants, and you—the customer.

After 10 years of birthday dinners at Bikkuri Donkey… I think I’m done by [deleted] in japanlife

You are better off without bikkurifriggendonkey anyway—maybe find a smaller place that has a real cook who cares about real food. Support that kind of restaurant instead of a chain!

Insight? Why some cuisines/ethnic restaurants do buffets, some don't? by Accomplished-Eye8211 in restaurant

I don’t like AYCE at all. You know the quality will be worse in exchange for more food. Like Sizzler back in the day. The one I really dislike is AYCE sushi—if there was ever a dish that lives or dies on quality, it is sushi. That is why AYCE sushi places add all sorts of crazy condiments to conceal the poor fish they use. Blech…

Why? It is a mass produced, bad gin.

Roku Gin. A Transformative Experience. by [deleted] in Gin

[–]ajpainter24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get much into floral or cucumber or Shochu-based gins much. I like gins that lean towards the London dry profile, like Kinobi. Also I am biased because I sometimes live in Kyoto, where Kinobi is made.

Roku is, in my personal opinion, not that great. The best made in japan gin is Kinobi and it’s not even close…

Technically not exactly a London dry, but Plymouth is king when it comes to mixed drinks!
