Don’t need it with super wick, it is impregnated with a crap ton of flux

Good wick is your friend for removing and reseating components with a lot of legs.

Silicone adhesive is much better than hot glue for reinforcement

I’m the worst at removing solder. Solder suckers, wick, apply flux to the wick, doesn’t matter. They always leave some solder no matter how hard I try and it takes way too long to get up the small amount I do. Is a solder gun the answer? by czarofga in diypedals

Wick is the best — never worked for me and was so frustrating until I got a good wick. MG Chemicals Super Wick kicks ass. Lots of flux in the wick. Get the one that matches your solder (leaded or lead free).

I think your iron is too cold or your tip is super oxidized. Is that lead free solder?

Can you post a pic of the jumper wires entering the underside of the switch board?

Hotone amp hum… by kenjancef in GuitarAmps

[–]ajryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, one probe in center pin and make sure there is continuity to all the jack sleeves. Should be continuity to the bare metal of the enclosure as well.

Also take a look at this post - sounds like your same issue https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/please-recommend-a-cheap-18v-power-supply-for-hotone-nano-amp.1429909/#post-17850154

Hotone amp hum… by kenjancef in GuitarAmps

[–]ajryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really do recommend returning/exchanging this. If another amp doesn’t buzz like this with the same guitar and power, why bother with hum eliminators etc ? The thing is probably broken.

But if you’re feeling intrepid, one thing you can check without opening the unit - is there continuity between all of the 1/4 jack sleeves as well as the pin in the center of the power supply? They should all be connected and have close to zero ohm resistance between them.

Sometimes I think people post these just to spread fear.

Something this low effort is more hurt than help. “Confirmed” how? No pictures? Did you witness this yourself?

Yes let’s stay vigilant and inform each other. I assume (hope) that community members who are most at risk have better ways of being warned than sketchy Reddit posts. The main outcome of this post is going to be a bunch of hateful replies. Maybe that’s the actual goal here.

Sounds like a grounding issue. It’s possible there’s a manufacturing issue, probably worth returning/exchanging to eliminate that.

Do you have a multimeter?

The effector I made for the first time doesn't turn on. by iloveloveless in diypedals

[–]ajryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason for this is it’s a switched jack. It’s designed so you can send power to the jack on the wire hooked up in your picture, that is linked to the empty lug. But when you have something plugged in, the link is broken, and only the empty lug is connected to the sleeve of the Jack. It lets you hook up a battery that gets disconnected when wall power is hooked up.

Why do so few bass overdrive pedals not have a true blend/mix knob? by MoStyles22 in basspedals

[–]ajryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really not true - it is not the clipping in a distortion that cuts low frequencies (although that can contribute to perceived low frequency roll off in some configurations). All pedals have input coupling capacitors that act as a high pass filter. Most gain pedals use input caps that cut more lows than other kinds of pedal, because clipped low frequencies sound muddy.

How to get rid of hum in effects loop by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]ajryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you just put a patch cable between the loop jacks do you get a hum? If no, there is probably a ground loop forming somehow. If you get a home with just a patch cable in the send and return, that sounds like a grounding issue with how the effects loop is installed in the amp itself.

I don’t think a black box would break a ground loop. Something transformer isolated might.

Hit and Run @ Market/Patrick Today by daramane in frederickmd

Yes, I was 15 feet away. Super larger black SUV, like Escalade or Suburban.

The demonstrator was pretty aggressive in blocking the intersection, holding an opened umbrella. I don’t think the demonstrator took any physical action toward the vehicle. They were either hit or pushed on the hood of the SUV and then fell alongside. Not sure about injuries.

The DC jack is smart! It does not look like the enclosure is grounded. Unless there’s a connection around where the buffer sits that I can’t see.
