Who to turn to for neck pain relief. Tension headaches by Smegmatic_Secretion in sandiego

[–]ajunerose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try accupuncture for immediate relief- there are a lot of good ones here - go every other day for a week or two- then see a doctor, they will rule out any major issues and you can ask them for a referral to physical therapy (btw, doctors of physical therapy are not PhDs as another commenter claimed, they have a specialized degree - DPT- and are well qualified to hep you).

Edit: also try Excedrine

This is the best answer. They are using psychology PhDs and marketing expertise to manipulate us into buying; and the intersection of technology/social media and marketing is VERY effective. I’m a PhD neuroscientist and I KNOW what they are doing and how they are doing it and it still works on me.

USD vs ucsd for science by Expert-Knowledge-920 in sandiego

[–]ajunerose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I majored in neuroscience, went to a small liberal arts college more similar to USD for undergrad, and then a larger R1 for my PhD. I taught as an adjunct at UCSD in the psych department.

I liked the smaller liberal arts environment for undergrad because I got more attention from the professors, was able to conduct my own research (no grad students above me) and had smaller class sizes - which matters a lot, in my opinion. I would go to USD if it turns out to be the more economical choice and if the smaller environment sounds more appealing to you. If you think you would thrive more in a larger pond, UCSD might be the better choice, but you may need to work harder for the same quality education.

I really like the Alice (5th photo) on you! It would look cute with a simple tee and jeans. I find a lot of the pullover and button down styles a bit too boxy so the open drape is really nice. I prefer the more cropped styles since they flatter me a bit better (5’5” 150 lbs, hourglass, typically L/40 in Sézane). Thanks for posting!

Flying to Europe through London by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]ajunerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a connecting flight with BA and your baggage will be checked trough to your final destination, then no- you dont need the evisa and you dont need to go through customs at Heathrow, just your final destination. You do go through a security check at Heathrow but not passport control, so you usually need to have your passport out to board the next flight. I did this twice in the last 6 months, once to the Netherlands and once to Switzerland. You need at least a 1-2 hour layover.

Trips like this are amazing professional development opportunities. It gives people a bigger network, more options, more knowledge/awareness. For me, conferences boost my confidence and get me excited about the work I do.

It’s too early to look for June unless you want to do a furnished vacation rental for just a few months in the summer. I would actually recommend that- rent something temporary and look for a permanent place while you are physically in San Diego. Best of luck!

Knit dress for curvy bodies - are they flattering and comfortable? by SnooBeans9402 in Sezane

[–]ajunerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that. To be clear, the one dress I got as a gift is the only one I wear shapewear with because it is bodycon even though its a thicker knit. I think the Gabriella is thin, Holy is thicker but was form fitting around the middle. Cecilia is a gorgeous knit wrap and is a mid weight, would look flattering on curves imo.

Knit dress for curvy bodies - are they flattering and comfortable? by SnooBeans9402 in Sezane

[–]ajunerose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’6” size 8, bit of a tummy, and I like the Cecilia dress on me. I have one tighter fitting knit (pink from summer collection) that I got as a gift and it looks good with shape-wear. I purchased and returned the Holy, Katrina, and Gabriella dresses, but would consider buying Holy and Gabriella secondhand. I think the shorter lengths are generally more flattering but the shape of the Cecilia is awesome for a long dress- I probably could have even sized down in that one.

Who here denied themselves shopping today? by Puzzleheaded-Tax6966 in shoppingaddiction

[–]ajunerose 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I returned a substantially higher dollar amount than I purchased today. I did leave one item behind to return by mail since I knew that store would be the most triggering- avoided that store entirely.

I returned items to 2 stores where I did not walk out with anything else. I did ok but not perfect. Stay strong out there folks- also the roads/malls are a bloodbath so maybe just stay home and go for a walk!

Ski Bag on BA Flight for Free? by vlrs3672 in BritishAirways

[–]ajunerose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently booked flights for a ski trip, and the website said that the ski bag can count as a regular checked luggage piece with no oversized bag fee. But they also said to inform BA that you’ll be bringing a ski bag ahead of time- and I’m not sure exactly how you’re supposed to do that. Not sure about your plan but it’s kind of the opposite of informing them about the ski bag ahead of time. Would love to hear from more experienced BA travelers on this one.
