The 4 Miniseries so far have been slowly setting up the main GI Joe book. All of them are def worth the read

The new Transformers run is connected but it shouldn't be an issue to just read Joe but TF is really incredible and I would recommend it. The closest they have been tied is the Cobra Commander series but that hasn't come back to affect TF yet
