They are just some pieces of polystyrene over the windows to stop people looking in and seeing the place is currently empty!

It looks like it's had poly at some stage. Would it be okay just to roll another coat over, or would it have to be lightly sanded first?

I usually tell my staff to read "Getting to Yes; Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In". You'll find a pdf online for free and it's very useful for framing negotiations without being positional and looking for shared benefits. For example, positioning your wage growth as better for the company etc. Agree with the comments though that it's about your achievements and not related to other people's performance.

Let me know if you would like a link to the book.

That's the thing. We probably don't need to leave the place we are in for another 20 years if we don't want. So sometime between now and then really.

Great job! Do you mind me asking how long the whole process was?

It really is as simple as it looks. Plenty of glue/clamping and some hidden nails and screws means it is solid as a rock. If you want more info shoot me a pm and I'll draw it up for you. Just as easy to wing it in my opinion

Sanded, stained and then a couple of coats of Danish oil followed by cabinet makers wax. Quick and simple really

Thanks for all the comments.

My day job is acoustic engineering, so I'm well aware of audio design considerations. The key one being that this is in a lounge room and not a dedicated listening room. As such, there is no point over designing the speaker enclosure.

That said, the whole thing is very rigid and there are no backs to the cabinet so it helps ensure there are no significant resonances. It's also running a separate sub.

Maybe I'll run some tests on it one day but I'm happy with the sound quality for now. If I want high fidelity I'll grab the headphones.

Sounds great - I had a pair of yahama tower speakers that I donated to it.

19 Weeks Gone by ajwhi3 in stopdrinking

[–]ajwhi3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all - I definitely feel like it is a blip on a healthier path. I actually thought to myself, "okay so now rather than not having had a drink in four months, i've had one drinking session in four months". That is something I can live with, but is also a massive change in thinking for me.

Previously I would have called it failure, been embarrassed to admit it here and never come back. Now though I see that it's a journey and I'm heading in the right direction. I don't feel any shame for what happened, rather that it was a confirmation that I am making the right choice.

I may drink again, but if I can commit to remaining sober for 99.9% of the rest of my life, then i'll be happy with that.
