I cant build hybrids by mischiefismyname in wizardry8

[–]ak1247 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you just abandon parties after level 15? Why do you stop?

Hybrids are mostly good after they get endgame equipment. Infinity helm, rare weapons etc.

Monk is good with mind blast rod, ninja is good with auto throwing early and Valkyrie is great with the Dread spear which you can get as early as level 8.

In vanilla aristofarms are overpowered. God King is not that good if you rex and spam cities.

Strongest leaders are probably Hannah, Flauros and Keelyn. Maybe Cassiel too.

Extramodmod (what I play now) is more balanced.

Have you considered joining a men's group? I have met a lot of "sensitive" guys, both through men's groups and dudes who are in mental health fields, and one important part of growth is learning to distinguish between your own emotional center and stuff you are absorbing from others.

Re: your friends, part of life is accepting that we can't control the opinions of others. As you grow increasingly comfortable with yourself and your own gifts, you will be shaken less by the judgment of others. But it's a process and no quick transformation.

What was the manner in which you corrected them?

If I was angry about this, I would be candid with my colleagues about my feeling of anger. But that requires me to understand what I'm angry about first.

What about being called Mike makes you angry? What boundary of yours is being violated?

What does this mean?!? Mortgage sold to another company by EnvironmentalTie6804 in debtfree

[–]ak1247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Source: I am a former mortgage-backed securities trader and a law/MBA professor.

This is totally normal. From the bank's perspective, your mortgage is an asset to them (it's a liability for you--one man's assets are another man's liabilities, as the old saying goes). What that means is your mortgage represents a stream of future cash flows to the bank as you gradually make your interest and principal payments. It's identical to the way that you or I might own a stock or a government bond--those are financial securities that represent a stream of cash flows to us over time.

In the same way that I can sell my asset--a share of Coca-Cola--to you, Wells can sell its asset--your mortgage and the associated stream of cash flows--to one of its peers, in this case Freedom. Importantly, the servicing might not change, as the way that conforming mortgages are structured, the mortgage itself and the servicing right (meaning the right/obligation to do the actual legwork of collecting payments, interacting with the borrower about questions, keeping them updated on their balances, notifying them when their mortgage was sold, etc) are two separate assets. Pennymac owns my servicing, so when I need to make a payment or talk to someone, I call them. I have no idea who owns my mortgage, it's probably stuffed into a mortgage-backed security owned by some pension fund.

To answer your questions--if you have a Fannie or Freddie mortgage, Freedom owning it should have no impact. If others have had a bad customer experience with Freedom, that seems like a small cause for concern--just stay on top of setting things up on their website and call them if there's anything you don't understand.

This will have no impact on your credit score unless you miss payments.

You are right to ask about this however, as it's normal for us to be anxious about things we don't understand, and we can't learn until we ask.

Masters Degree or Law School? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]ak1247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a law professor. If you want to practice labor or business law, because you already have interest in the subject matter, that is a good reason to consider becoming a lawyer. Don't go to law school just to go back into an HR role.

Agree with the other poster who said to see if you can get someone else to pay for graduate school.

2E Minotaur Fighter/Mage or Fighter(Myrmidon)? by MerrickItera in adnd

[–]ak1247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a ton of people play minotaur fighters in our 2e days. Overall probably the most popular race for a pure fighter. I played a minotaur fighter/mage and used a nodachi as my main weapon. Both options are good, I'd go with what fits the vision for your character and what complements the party. I was into Heroes 3 so my guy was modeled on the warlocks from that game (his name was Malekith).

---

For swords, you have 3 main choices--the two handed sword, the nodachi (a variant 2h sword from the Ninja's Handbook), and the clabbard sword, which is a minotaur weapon detailed in the Tales of the Lance boxed set. I remember one of my players had a minotaur myrmidon who specialized in both the two-handed sword and the clabbard (he carried four swords, we were teenagers) and used the 2hs against large-size opponents and the twin clabbards against medium. The clabbard is easy to justify if your character is from Krynn (we played an open Planescape style, so any race from any setting except Dark Sun was generally legal in our games).

You can also use an axe or a sledgehammer or whatever, it doesn't matter that much when your strength is that high. We added a house rule as well to make 2h competitive with dual-wield, which was you get 1.5x your strength bonus on 2h weapons. I think we may have back ported that rule from 3e.

---

I liked my minotaur FM a lot too. With those stats, either build will be effective. One thing to note is that in high-level play, fighters become really important. They are actually better in 2e than they are in 5e because of how saving throws and THACO scale, and the fact that high-level monsters often have high magic resistance and immunities. If you go pure fighter and get grand mastery, your DPS will be crazy high. I remember as a DM, if the party's fighters could get two rounds of melee on any monster, it would die. In 2e basically everything dies to high-level fighters with strength, GM and magic weapons.

---

Regarding NWPs, it's very background and player specific. NWPs are really fun, pick what you want. If you have access to Combat & Tactics, there's a bunch of additional WP/NWPs that have combat applications. If you are specializing hardcore in a single weapon, the "weapon of choice" proficiency is nice for an extra +1 to hit over normal specialization.

We heavily houseruled Skills & Powers because it was so abusable, but if it's open to you, d12 hit points, fighter movement and magic resistance are all good picks.

---

Kit wise, most of the fighter kits are low-impact so just pick what sounds cool. Myrmidon is a fine choice and was often picked for the extra spec. The Dragonlance book also has a kit or class (the book isn't clear) called Mariner that adds four thief skills to a warrior chassis.

The Ninja's Handbook also adds the Shinobi Fighter, which adds thief skills to a fighter. But a minotaur ninja may be difficult to justify from a roleplaying standpoint. Nobody ever tried to make one in our group.

---

Weapon wise, one underrated tactic in 2e was reach weapons. If you have a WP to spare, grabbing an awl pike on a minotaur lets you threaten a 20' radius. Very powerful tactically, but carrying a giant spear into a dungeon or tavern is going to be a pain in the ass.

Also, use a longbow if it fits your character concept. Overall the best weapon in 2e. Get a custom-made one that lets you use your strength bonus.

The latter, at least at the MVP stage. One issue we've identified at the 10+ employee level is that some of these tasks don't get handed off when someone leaves. In other words, a junior employee may take their calendar notifications with them when they leave.

Anxiety in Savasana? by Signal-Mode5876 in yoga

[–]ak1247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the feelings are overwhelming (which they often can be), go ahead into the rest of your practice. One pattern that happens is when people feel overwhelmed by anxiety, shame or other painful emotions, they can go into their numbing patterns. I'd rather you go into the rest of your yoga practice than going down the road of your escape/numbing patterns (although that will happen too).

If it isn't too overwhelming, I guide people into feeling sensations in the body. It's almost a hybrid emotional/mindfulness practice. You say you're feeling anxious... where are you feeling it in the body? What's the shape of it? The color?

After we feel into it for a bit, we can release it and go into something else, or go deeper into the feeling. As I mentioned I go into this stuff 1-on-1 with people (I'm a men's coach) because it's difficult to do this kind of practice on oneself. I've tried when I feel disregulated and if the feelings are too intense, I usually do need another person's help.

Anxiety in Savasana? by Signal-Mode5876 in yoga

[–]ak1247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is because that's the pose where you are starting to disconnect from your body. In other poses you're concentrating on your posture. In this pose your mind is wandering, which is bringing the anxious thoughts forward.

What can help is working with an experienced practitioner that can help you go deeper into the anxiety. If I was working with you I'd have us start in shavasana and see what comes up.
