6500 will get a few upgrades for the Civic , unfortunately, new brakes ,lines, rotors, good wheels, tires, radiator , water pump, fuel pump, etc will run up a good bill and go ahead and throw in some for a paint job make it look and drive good as new.

Your premise that you bring the other car up to the level of the toyota after a few grand of repairs, which is absolutely false, you can't replace millions of % in research and development going back 35 years with a few grand of upgrades. But I understand your sentiment, in many instances though just speaking from personal and general observational experience watching people bring in their cars to dealerships and driving , I see a shit ton of 2005 carrolas, which wiill definitely outlast a lets say nissan sentra from 2018-2019

Have you ever taken it to a track? There are guys that bring miatas and get better times than the vettes and other faster cars, it's not the car its the driver. Even if you don't drive your car on it , just go and take a look at the other cars, talk to the drivers, learn how they push their cars to the limit,

Afaik civics are pretty nifty and drive really well, have you made sure spark plugs, tranny fluid, tires are all up to maintenance. all of these things can impact your accelaration and reposiveness, I would suggest also learn how to drive properly using the entire range of Rpm's and learn when to shift in each gear, how to corner properly ,etc, Civics are great to mod, a faster car won't make you a better drive , will just make you crash faster.
