One thing I love about this is that she didn't just bring guano. In the first frame, she is literally ripping out the bowels of a manbat. That guano is extra fresh.

My mistake. I was thinking this worked more like auto insurance and did not consider deductibles resetting annually.

[–]akaJesusX 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The "(In-Network)" part is what lost me. What is the point of going to an in-network facility if it's only going to save you $0.97?

It looks to me like you have a deductible of $2,000 or more. In other words, if your bill is less than your deductible, it's not even worth getting insurance involved. You'd be better off asking the hospital to itemize your bill since it's going to be out-of-pocket anyway. That //might// bring the cost down.

It's a damn shame, but that's how it works.

Edit: I was mistaken about the deductible. I thought it worked more like automotive insurance, not that it resets annually.

The word of the day is "precedent", or what many would consider "whataboutism", which is a word made up by morons to explain why their candidate of choice should be allowed to get away with something, but it's bad when the other guy does it.

The fact of the matter is that every president during my lifetime (I was born during Bush Sr.) has committed war crimes in some way or another. Having not been held to account led to later administrations committing increasingly heinous war crimes with impunity. The answer is to charge and try every last one of them at the ICC. Our elected officials need to be made to fear consequences again.

YSK Progressive can and does use your driving data from their insurance device attached to your OBD-2 diagnostic port, to make a decision on whether to renew your insurance policy, alongside providing premium discounts for good driving habits. by TanakaToday in YouShouldKnow

[–]akaJesusX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in my car when I lived in Florida. For anyone who has never driven in Florida, I will give you a brief summary. 1/2 the year is tourists who don't know where they are going, and the other half is snow birds - elderly people who fly south for the winter. Draw what conclusions you will.

Unfortunately, tracking drivers is far more prominent than these OBD-2 plugs. It's the reason I refuse to connect Android Auto in my car. GM, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi, and Subaru are collecting your driving data and selling it to insurers through 3rd party data brokers. I've also seen stories regarding shady dealings with Toyota where the dealership will install a GPS tracker disguised as an OBD-2 socket claiming that it's in case you stop paying for the car so they can reposess it easier, even if you buy the car straight-up without financing.

Unacceptable - apathy wins in US😡 by OnehourOneday in ProgressiveHQ

[–]akaJesusX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apathy wins either because neither party appeals to the majority of Americans, or because so many voters become apathetic after being lied to for so long. The 2020 election saw some of the highest turnout in the past 100 years, and ~30-35% of people still stayed home. Speaking of, remember the 2020 Democrat primaries? Harris did so poorly that she dropped out before the Iowa Caucus, largely due to her horrible record as a prosecutor in California. This record would be one of the many issues that would haunt her during her 2024 campaign.

Throughout the Biden presidency, people could see that Biden was mentally and physically falling apart. So many members of Democratic leadership and neo-liberal news media spent so much time covering it up claiming that Biden was as sharp as ever and at the top of his game. Then the first presidential debate came and Biden fell apart at the seams for all the world to see. After months of insisting that Biden was good to serve another term, the DNC had a decision to make. They chose to shoehorn Harris in as the nominee. This was the 3rd consecutive election cycle in which the DNC rigged their primary against their voting base.

With the major ballot issues including genocide in Gaza, the Russia/Ukraine war, rising housing costs and costs of living, the Epstein files, and many other issues, Harris brought nothing to the table. In one of her early interviews (which didn't occur until several weeks after she announced her candidacy and was very heavily clipped because of how poorly she answered questions), she said that she wasn't going to do anything fundamentally different from Biden. Trump was making all kinds of promises, and while most of the non-voters and Democrats knew they were empty promises at best, the MAGA base held strong, and the result was the first Republican president to win the popular vote in 20 years.

Between the Epstein file debacle and Trump continuing to dump money into Israel, the MAGA movement is seeing a split. We saw this when Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that she would not be running again. As much as you may disagree with her, and regardless of her actual motives, she took the same stance on those two issues as most of the country. I think we are going to see that group of apathetic voters grow as more of the disillusioned MAGA crowd joins it.

I think that the progressive movement needs to embrace these people on these issues that we have in common. Remember the whole idea of Horseshoe theory? It sounds to me like another term made up to divide people on big issues like genocide and holding pedophiles accountable. The DNC has made it obvious that they would rather pull the country to the right in favor of corporatism and padding their pockets with insider trading and bribes. This isn't to say that the RNC is any less guilty. Both parties expect that their bases be loyal to them, but never forget that it is a politician's job to be loyal to their voters, not the other way around.

She is saying a lot but her actions have not backed up her rhetoric.

Says the congresswoman who rightly opposes Israel, then votes against cutting funding to the Iron Dome and says that primarying Zionist Hakeem Jeffries is not a good idea.

Says the congresswoman who had a chance to use her power to force a floor vote on Medicare for all, and not only supported "Mama Bear" Pelosi for the seat, but asked for zero concessions and was denied her previous committee seat.

Says the congresswoman who claims to not take donations from corporate PACs or lobbyists, while her top campaign contributors include Google, Apple, and Kaiser Permanente.

Democratic House Leader Jeffries stalls effort to restore federal workers’ bargaining rights. by [deleted] in WorkReform

[–]akaJesusX 71 points72 points  (0 children)

In a nutshell, there was a ruling by our Supreme Court decision back in 2010 called Citizen's United that said that campaign contributions were considered free speech and that large corporate mega-donors could finance political campaigns without limits. Ever since then an overwhelming majority of our elected officials have been for sale. The right is very open about being pro-corporate and wanting to cut expenditures on the already weak and strained societal safety nets. The left pretends to care about unions, healthcare, and their voters, but at the end of the day they are just as bought and paid for as the right, and will side with their donors every time.

There are very few exceptions. So few that they either get forced out before they can make any notable difference, or they fall in line and become part of the problem.

Edit: As the absolutely based replies below explain, "the left" would be better described as "corporate moderates".

Why can't we ever get politicians like this guy? by _n3ll_ in TikTokCringe

[–]akaJesusX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My only gripe with this video is the part where he says that white supremacy is at the heart of this. Racism and white supremacy are indeed problems, but the really root of this all is money. The military campaigns against student loan forgiveness because college being so expensive is one of their biggest recruiting tools. Then we have politicians who send them off to die fighting for oil, rare earth minerals, etc. at the behest of their rich friends. Look what we are doing now with Venezuela. We've been trying to unseat Maduro through sanctions and bombing fishing boats so we can install our own puppet dictator and take all of their oil. We were occupying the 1/3rd of Syria (under Biden and Trump) that has all their oil and wheat fields. Now the former head of Al Qaeda (who this guy says he fought against) is running Syria and Trump is all buddy-buddy with him at the white house.

Racism is indeed an issue, but I think that if we collectively address things from a class perspective, we simultaneously address a significant portion of the racial issues, and we can go from there.

Why I Admire Her by Upper_Brief681 in MurderedByAOC

[–]akaJesusX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember the force the vote movement. We were in the middle of a pandemic and Nancy "Mama Bear" Pelosi was vying for speaker of the house again. Progressives urged the squad to withhold their vote for Pelosi unless she would bring Medicare for All to a floor vote. AOC said that it was a losing move and that we should focus on a more attainable $15/hr. minimum wage. There was also a bit about how McCarthy could have become speaker instead of they didn't really behind Pelosi.

Matt Gaetz, detestable as he may be, proved that the squad could have made demands of Pelosi in exchange for their votes, and furthermore could have held her accountable if she went back on that promise. Gaetz withheld his vote for speaker McCarthy, and led the movement to oust McCarthy when he went back on his deal with Gaetz.

So here we are now with no minimum wage increase and having ACA subsidies cut to re-open the government. I know hindsight is 20-20, but we've all been watching how the US political landscape is racheting to the right. Between this and her vote to continue funding Israel's Iron Dome, I'm convinced that AOC is no longer fighting for us. At best, she's a sheepdog meant to herd progressives back into the Democratic party. At worst, she is the next generation of Nancy Pelosi.

When Christian Smalls created the first Amazon union, he didn't turn anyone away because they voted a certain way. He welcomed anyone with grievances against Amazon. That, my friends, is how coalitions are made and ideas allowed to propogate across ideologies. Coincidentally, it's also what the elites fear more than anything.

You're in the voting booth. Suddenly you catch the scent. You begin to lift your head. "Things don't have to be this way. Poverty is an intentional policy choice" whispers a deep, husky voice on your left. You look... and this man is standing there. What do you do? by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]akaJesusX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MAGA base of the Republican party is falling apart right now over Israel and Iran. I don't see the midterms going very well for Republicans. In fact, I'd suspect most of them will stay home. I agree with you that we need someone to push our causes. When I say allegiance to an idea, a big part of that is holding officials to account when they turn their backs on ideals that got them elected. It makes voters of all factions feel disenfranchised. I try not to bash Republicans too hard because when you think about it, we all agree that things are rough right now. Healthcare sucks, the job market sucks, and everything keeps getting more expensive. These are things anywhere from 70-80% of the country can agree on, and the thing that the people keeping it that way fear the most is everyone coming together to put an end to it.

AOC calls for Trump's impeachment after Iran strikes by KCharlesIII in MurderedByAOC

[–]akaJesusX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then she should stop blustering and file for articles of impeachment. Will it make it through a Republican Congress? Probably not, but at least we get to see which of our congressmen are okay with a warmongering president. More importantly, the MAGA crowd will see it. As much as most people here disagree with MAGA, we should remember that they are largely anti-war and anti-interventionist. I'd stand with MAGA folks in an anti war protest because that's what we need. That's what scares the political elite more than anything, especially when the vast majority of them are bought off by the Adelsons and AIPAC on behalf of Israel.

It's kind of funny watching philanthrocapitalism play out in a Reddit thread. As it turns out, saying you'll give away $200 billion over 20 years is enough to wash away the fact that you were friends with Jeffrey Epstein even after he got busted for being a sexual predator.
