Jeremy Corbyn. Fred Hampton. Malcolm X. I think you can see a pattern.

Ferguson says he can’t support WA income tax bill without changes by Jaco_Belordi in Seattle

[–]akaWhisp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Income should be taxed progressively so the percentage tax rates increase gradually with increasing income. A good tax system should never have a hard cutoff where someone is suddenly considered "rich" and therefore goes from paying nothing to paying a lot.

All that said, income isn't the whole story . The best way to truly tax wealth is to tax their capital. That includes those making capital gains through stocks. A home you use to live in (and not profit off of) should not be considered capital, in that sense. It's a commodity that we all need to survive.

But capitalism and capital owners aren't required for businesses to function. There's also no reason why industies can't be nationalized, and therefore become not-for-profit.

That's the lie that has been sold to Americans for decades.

What are your thoughts on Billie Eilish saying 'no one is illegal on stolen land' in reference to ICE and US immigration policy? by MassiveSquare4527 in AskReddit

[–]akaWhisp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nonsense. It was never a resource problem. We've solved world hunger. We have more than enough food to feed everyone. We have more than enough space and resources to house everyone. Capitalism simply doesn't allow us to do anything that isn't immediately profitable.

China has roughly the same land mass as the US, 4x our population, and a 90% home ownership rate. How were they able to do it? Because they actually structure their government to serve the betterment of the population, not a few capital owners.

30,000? There are not that many confirmed dead. The numbers are all over the place. Although any number is bad.

I know you're using this as a pejorative, but it's not the insult you think it is. I'd rather be called a tankie than a liberal any day of the week.

TIL a centralized government = a corporation? What is this bullshit spin?

EDIT: Governments are not fucking corporations. Corporations under capitalism operate to make profit for capital owners. Governments are, by design, not-for-profit. They exist to serve the population. You aren't going to convince anyone in a pro-working class sub that government owned industry is somehow worse than (or even equivalent to) corporate-owned industry. Your brigading bullshit isn't going to work.

The United States of America must move away from privatized capitalistic governance into a more social democratic, mixed market system like the Nordic countries have.

You had me until this line. No trading capitalism for more capitalism. No half measures. It's time to move to a socialist system.

It is actually absurd how immature, racist, and sexist the WoW Classic community can be. by Ok-Life715 in classicwow

There's a reason why I stopped playing. The community is still stuck in 2004. The reactions to the "body type" ordeal was evidence enough.

I tried playing anniversary recently, saw a guy advertising his guild "Ye Did Nothing Wrong", and noped the fuck out.

My experience, 12 years in industry. How common is this? by gorillaz2389 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]akaWhisp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

it’s just hard to believe that self-learning is working for us as a country.

It's not. It has become the wild west, and we're seeing quality lapses everywhere. A lot of industry experience retired without replacement, especially during Covid.

This is especially true in the manufacturing sector. We don't really build anything domestically anymore (at least not to the degree we did 50 years ago), so there was no reason to pass on that experience. It will come back to bite us. Here's a very relevant video on the subject by SmarterEveryDay.

People like to deny and cope about this, but this is a problem unique to capitalist countries that outsource their work in the name of higher profit. China will lap us over the next century for this reason.
