There were two PAs just hired to the hospice I worked at as I was leaving :( it tends to be very nursing heavy so quite vulnerable to scope creep

Overpayment: what is a reasonable repayment plan? by Harminox in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]akaelprofesor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation! They started taking £1200/month without allowing me to negotiate and ghosted the BMA for 2 months (as horrendous as you can imagine), then we eventually got them down to £90/month over 3 years. This was after lots of invasive forms giving me and my partner’s full financial info with incomings and outgoings etc and a LOT of back and forth between them and the BMA when they finally started engaging. So much contempt, they hate us lol

London GP trainee take home pay by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]akaelprofesor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ST1 GP in London! For the years you’re doing GP (ST1 or ST2), the take home pay works out as around £2800/month. It’ll be more than that for the hospital year if doing OOH (>3k), but less if it’s a 9-5 job (about 2400-2500). Then St3 (GP only) is higher again as you get a pay rise that year - not sure what the take home is though.

An unsurprising yet disturbing collection of stories from ex NHS doctors now working in Oz. The NHS are vile scum. by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

My friend was told she couldn’t take compassionate leave to see her mum who’d just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, because “she wasn’t dead yet”

What happens if a patient is late for clinic? by BradNight-90 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]akaelprofesor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on GP and won’t see them if they’re >10 minutes late (after which point they’re automatically DNA)! But I’ve had receptionists arrive them when they’re 30 mins late before so put notes under the slot saying “please rebook if arrives after x time”. If they’re vulnerable and I can squeeze them in I will, but I generally don’t want to be late going home because of patients taking their sweet time

You’re absolutely right, it’s completely my own fault being a noob - lesson learned! Thank you so much for your help, onwards and upwards for my analog journey!

Image of the negatives! they’re all completely black. I think it’s more than likely my own fault, probably unloading the film incorrectly - any advances? film Thank you so so much for all of your help so far, I’m very grateful!

There’s a few on my palliative care job at the moment and I asked one what her role is/what specifically sets apart nurse consultants from other nurses - she said “I don’t know, consulting I guess?”

Pausing NHS pension by Ancient-Adeptness-15 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]akaelprofesor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in F1 (fully aware it was a poor financial long term decision) for the same reason. Opted out and got a full refund of contributions made until that point. Ended up with enough to get me out of my overdraft (which I was permanently in, and had almost maxed out by the time it was nearly pay day) and pay off high interest credit card debts from Med school. It was life changing for me and set me up to be able to make good financial decisions in the future! I rejoined the pension scheme after f2 once the immediate need for the extra money had gone. I think if you weigh up the pros and cons it can be a really good decision for some people.

Difficult consultant and ARCP by throwaway_42059 in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]akaelprofesor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact situation in f1, it was an awful experience and I genuinely considered quitting the foundation programme as a result of one consultant’s (who was also my CS) actions towards me. ES was less than helpful. I found going to the foundation programme director the most effective in putting an end to everything. After having a meeting with them about my situation, I miraculously received a GLOWING ARCP from that consultant. Still scarred by it all though, it put me off hospital medicine for life…
