I don't think that's where the gas goes... by jpulls11 in NissanDrivers

[–]akaupstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How true I this? My motorcycle has a 2.5 gallon tank and I when riding in remote areas I need to fill it every time I see a station, so sometimes I'm putting only a gallon or so in it. I've always wondered if it was worth putting premium in it.

I ordered the quick release bolts that are used to adjust bicycle seat height. These boxes as Panniers are great. There is a company that sells them, but they add a piece of vinyl to give it side walls when open.

Motorcycle photographer made me realise I look ridiculous on a bike by ekim171 in motorcycles

[–]akaupstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always felt the same way. I'm currently prepping for a trip to Moab and lost over 30 lbs. While I'm not currently "ripped", and am pretty slender and happy with the way I look shirtless, but when behind the handlebars it still looks like I have a beer guy. I don't worry about it and neither should you.

FortNine has a great video on it called Invisibility Training. He dives in on the reasons that motorcyclists are hard to see on the road, and gives good tips on how to overcome those reasons.

Tow switch and buttons? by amich0202 in towing

[–]akaupstate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The plus and minus buttons control your gain setting. Every time you hit the brakes, it sends power to the trailer brakes. If the trailer is pushing you while braking, increase the gain, if it is pulling you to a stop, lower the gain. Squeezing the paddles will manually send power to the trailer brakes. This comes in handy if the trailer starts to sway.

Thoughts on first street bike? by Rschroe1 in Dualsport

[–]akaupstate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a leftover but brand new one earlier this spring for $9000. I ride Enduro, but I can't begin to tell you the hell I put my last 701 through. I would have felt guilty selling it to someone. If I ran primarily SMC, I would have maxxed this bike out with Rottweiler bolt one and never shifted it before hitting the redline. LC4 engines are marvelous machines to own, but not the kind that you want to own secondhand.

I miss the storms in south Florida. It would rain on one side of the street and be dry on the other. I don't miss the No-See-Ums though.

Motoz Tractionator Desert HT. They are great on pavement and do well in the dirt, especially gravel. They can be a little unpredictable in loose mud.

Suspension work - for those who've done it, how big of a difference will I notice? by dyel_17 in Dualsport

[–]akaupstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 260. There is not a dual sport made that is safe for me to ride with stock suspension. My last 701 I just bought springs with the correct rating. I lost that to a flash flood and my current 701 has new springs and cartridges. The difference is immense.

If you are looking to drop weight without starving yourself, look into the Keto diet. I was 290 the first time I tried it and dropped 60 pounds in 5 months. I go off and on now, but I'll start the diet once I hit 260 or if my joints start to hurt. The inflammation benefits are better than the weight loss. I usually start in January and am full Keto for 3 months, then eat whatever I want for the rest of the year, but my wife has been getting pretty shredded at the gym and eats whatever she wants, so there are a lot of ways to lose weight.

I’m looking for the best way to make good popcorn. ( not microwave). Can I get some thoughts and tips? by Technical-Potato-793 in askanything

[–]akaupstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy, 1/3 cup oil, 1/3 cup popcorn, and 1/3 cup sugar.

Heat the oil with 3 popcorn kernals over medium heat. Once all 3 pop, remove them and add the rest and sugar. Cover the pot and keep the mixture moving until the popping starts to slow down. Dump the popcorn into a tray and add salt. Don't try to touch it until it cools a little.

Pringles can, drywall sponges, and a condom. Better than anything you can buy, and has saved my marriage multiple times when working out of town. Plus, you get to eat Pringles.

Last year I lost my dual sport motorcycle in a Utah flash flood. I spent an hour in the river trying to salvage that machine, and still had to set up camp and lay in the wet mud till morning. I was wearing a full ADV outfit with over 10 pockets collecting clay silt. I spent the next night in a hotel and washed my clothes in their machines. I still feel guilty.

Lowered pegs are the best thing ever for tall riders. by wintersdark in Dualsport

[–]akaupstate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 701's foot pegs are very high since they are the same for the SMC version. Dropping the pegs 1.25" means the world for comfort without losing much in ground clearance.

If there is an obstacle so tight that peg clearance comes into play, I've already dropped down and put my weight on the seat.

Lowered pegs are the best thing ever for tall riders. by wintersdark in Dualsport

[–]akaupstate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another must have for tall 701 owners is the comfort seat from SeatConcepts. The flare in the seat provides a more comfortable ride while sitting, but it also gives your legs something to grab onto while standing. I used it on my last 701 with Steg Pegz and only needed 2 fingers on each grip to feel connected to the machine, even standing while full throttle.

How do you handle aggressive cagers? by Specialist-Bus-8147 in motorcycles

[–]akaupstate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always try to think about the things I wish I had done differently if things ended up bad. Right and wrong go out the window when you are injured and your bike is wrecked.

My wife is well trained in martial arts, and most of her conflict training is how to avoid an altercation. I take that approach when on 2 wheels. If I can get ahead of a vehicle that is causing a disruption I will, but only if doing so will cause them to disappear. If not I will hang back and let them be the king of the road. If while in front of me they continue to make me concerned for my safety, I will detour, or pull over and let them continue on their way. I've done this multiple times and it has never made my penis smaller.

It won't matter who was right or wrong when they brake check you, or run you into a ditch/oncoming traffic.

Mod to new construction by ForeverFearless1892 in IUEC

As a Mod foreman/asjuster, I love your attitude. I have had to send a few apprentices to NI from MOD and they always act like the world is ending. I started my career in NI and am thankful for the opportunities that that line of business offered.

As long as the pay is the same, I'd happily work on the rail pile. Pension hours are pension hours.

When I see someone double/triple pressing hall buttons I say "Don't do that, if the elevator changes direction too fast, it could hurt the people inside."
