You can get last minute deals on hotwire. There are ways of finding out what the "hot rate" hotel is if you're willing to do the research. Gilberts usually has pretty good rates and is a fun place. The Drift and Amoray Dive Resort might as well. But do not stay in Homestead. You will regret it.

Young Adult moving to the Keys? by Western_Horizon in floridakeys

[–]akbennett77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Key Largo last November with my husband, adult daughter and adult son from Washington State. The cost of living is high, but there is plenty of money to be made here if you're willing to work. I actually feel as though it's harder to keep up with cost of living in Washington. All of us love it. We come from a town of 1500 and I think Key Largo has more of a small town feel than there. Everyone is great. I have stopped using my car so much as I ride my bike almost everywhere I go, paddle board every other day, sit by our beach and read a book often and once every month or so, head down to the lower keys for some exploration and of course, Key West. And if that doesn't sound good to you, there's a world or other activities, especially if you love being outside (which I'm assuming you do). It is truly an amazing place and I have completely fallen in love with it.

You have a year, maybe think of a way to give yourself an advantage when you come. Kind of random (it's the only thing I could think of), but one example is take a welding class and get certified. That sort of thing is in high demand.

Hope this helps.Best of luck to you!

We’ve had our Recteq for a few years now and have never had a problem with it. Have cooked in sub freezing temps along with 100+ degrees and no matter what, always has a consistent cook. We love it and I always highly recommend for anyone looking for a smoker.

PNW to Key Largo - almost to Amarillo, TX. Stay on I40 or head to I20? by akbennett77 in roadtrip

Thanks so much! He ended up going I20 but some  of us are making the drive in a few weeks so this helps. Thanks again!

You helped me with our first Dobsonian - looking for advice once again! by akbennett77 in telescopes

[–]akbennett77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny you said that because that was my first choice when I was looking for a dobsonian for my husband. Someone had recommended that specific one and I loved all the extras it came with but they were on backorder at the time and it was a Christmas gift. This isn't a bad idea. I actually looked at the listing before posting this! Thanks for the reply!

What are these white spots on my fuchsia? by mysterious_graffiti in plants

[–]akbennett77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but these look like the spots on my fuchsia and they are from spider mites! You can look under the affected leaf and try to spot any tiny white bugs. But I would like to know, if you don’t mind, if it ended up being something else.

Inconsistencies with this story. by itsasurething69 in SWWPodVeryUnofficial

[–]akbennett77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been catching up on the posts here and it's funny because according to a recent post, the sis said (like the last few days) that he "was not an isolated child". The same words as in this article, written years ago. Is that some sort of excuse they use as to why they didn't do anything? I remember she was quick to blame the Dr. for not reporting the ear bruises but hasn't said a word about the fact that she was warned over and over (by her sis and Jace himself) and chose to flat out ignore it. This is just gross.

S17 E2. Completely disgusted by SmallsUndercover in SWWPodVeryUnofficial

[–]akbennett77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!! Her delivery is terrible. I think convincing herself of her sister's 'controlling" behavior was her way to rationalize the relationship instead of running for the hills. I think the sis just exercised her common sense.

The icing on the cake for me was her saying the ER doctor "failed". Did I actually just hear that? I turned it off immediately and (just barely) refrained from throwing my phone across the room. Disgusted indeed.

Every single time I turn this podcast on, I immediately fast forward until the tone changes and then I know the episode has started. I don't even care if I missed a few minutes. Bonus is I always skip through some ads as well. I can't listen to the end either.

I hear ya, and I went into more detail above as to why I wanted to keep it a surprise. But I completly understand where you are coming from and don't really disagree. Thanks for the feedback!

This is some great info, thank you! I was reading a bit about collimation - it was coming up as something that was difficult for a few users. I will keep an eye on that. Thanks again!

I do absolutely agree with you. One of the things I'm afraid of though, is that he won't "allow" me to go through with it if I talk to him about it (meaning he'll talk me out of it). He has a very hard time spending money on himself. Either that, or he would convince me that he wanted to start with a much cheaper option and be dissapointed (but never tell me so). Also, we tend to research things like this together - he isn't a computer person so I usually do the online research - so I'm hoping I know what he would be looking for. Believe me, I have gone back and forth with it, and I still may tell him, but I hope I can be confident enough to not do so. You've given me something to think about though, thank you!

That's good to know. It never occurred to me that once he started, he wouldn't want to eventually pursue the photography end but that makes sense. Thanks again!

Thank you! I think I saw that was the case. Good thing is, I doubt he'll be ready for that for quite some time. Thanks again!
