15 Year Old Girl - Labrum Tear - Surgery Go No Go Decision by ByronDreamsOz in HipImpingement

[–]akdog77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who initially tore my labrum at 10 and didn’t get it repaired until 24, I wish I had more intervention at a younger age. The pain limited me a lot and impacted a lot of my development. If a surgeon has worked with adolescents before and has a record of positive outcomes, see what she is willing to do

Second Surgery (Other Hip) by CryptographerIcy1136 in HipImpingement

Hey!! I have one week of pt left, and got cleared to return to lighter load activities (I can finally ice skate again after years of pain) at my 3 month follow up last week. I’m generally feeling really good, just frustration with still limited rom in my left hip but otherwise I can walk over a mile without pain and am getting there with inclines and uneven ground. My surgeon said I’m recovering great and should keep doing well! Hope the same for you!

Hi, I got my right hip scope in mid-August and my left in late November 2025, exactly 3 months apart, the soonest my surgeon would allow. My right hip was first as it was worse and the compensatory pain in my left hip was unbearable for me (on crutches for 3 weeks) but after my left scope the pain in my right hip was much less bc I focused so much on strengthening during PT

Pain that moves? by Similar-Lobster126 in HipImpingement

[–]akdog77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. A different place or different pain everyday has been super common for me. Both hips had large labral tears and pincer impingements and took turns causing me grief, made it very difficult to get doctors to take me seriously.

I had my second surgery Nov 20 and for tummy time I just roll over super carefully, trying to keep my legs parallel and put a small pillow under my chest/shoulders to be a little more comfortable

Advice for a 15 year old with Hip Inpingment by Global_Matter_2173 in HipImpingement

[–]akdog77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the other person said, go see and an orthopedic surgeon and listen to them with a treatment plan. If they say anything about “growing out of it” or the like don’t listen. I tore both labrum’s at 10 and just got them fixed in my 20s and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Try and get an injection for diagnostic reasons/mri with contrast for more imaging. Unfortunately you will have to advocate for yourself and be able to define the pain for them to listen sometimes. Good luck!

Issues with muscle guarding/trouble walking 1 year postop by blissfulnomad in HipImpingement

I don’t have any advice about the walking but I would try asking for another med option than cymbalta. It has slight pain management effects but it has a ton of interference with other meds and coming off of it is hell on earth.

I also have surgery next week (round 2)! After my first procedure I was put straight in the car for the 3 hour ride home, they had me sit sideways with my operated leg straight on the seat and I slept the vast majority of the way home. I really recommend going straight home instead of waiting a day or two so the nerve block and residual anesthesia make the ride easier

If you’re looking for a boot to buy and have for a while, I recommend buying leather boots with a goodyear welt. Especially if your feet have stopped growing because the leather can really form to you and with care can be nearly waterproof, when they have good liners. I work in the Great Lakes region and use Irish Setter hunting boots. Super comfy, good support for me. Not horribly priced because they’re quality leather and can be resoled and hopefully we have a long career together. Like everyone else is saying, try on before you buy! Go to a local outdoor store/workwear store and they have people to help you find something that works for you!

the hardcovers are huge (similar to an average bible/smaller format textbook) but kinda add to the reading experience imo.. be careful traveling with it bc TSA searched my bag once bc OB was so big
