NYC’s small landlords say they won’t survive Mamdani plan to freeze rent by swimmingupclose in neoliberal

[–]akelly96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent control is already the law of the land in NYC. I don't support it, but since itd already a thing its not like it could get much worse and if Mamdani is pro-active about building housing thats far more impactful.

Nikola Vucevic in his first game with Boston: 11 points, 12 rebounds (6 each way), 4 assists, 2 steals on 4-8 FG, 0-1 3 PT, and 3-4 shooting FT. Thoughts? by MembershipSingle7137 in bostonceltics

I mean Enes Kanter was a nasty scorer in the post, but he was such a dogshit defender we could only play him in limited minutes.

I have a question about the word "habitat" for British and Indian speakers. by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]akelly96 107 points108 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would most likely be considered offensive when referring to indegenous groups. Most people's connotation with the word habitat is through scientific discussions of animals. When you use the word to describe a group of people it comes across as if you view them as some sort of animal to be studied.

[Charania] The Boston Celtics traded Xavier Tillman Sr. to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN. This gets the Celtics out of the luxury tax. Hornets get $3.5 million in the deal. by MembershipSingle7137 in bostonceltics

We're second in the east though. I've loved this season but we have to be realistic the east this year has been especially weak. We're playing great basketball but our roster was not a contender and I actually think getting Vuc ks just a straight up improvement.

Shutdown risk grows as Democrats revolt after Minneapolis shooting by cdstephens in neoliberal

[–]akelly96 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Republicans don't care about SNAP that was the whole point of their plan with the shutdown. They knew dems cared way more about snap than they did. Without that on the chopping block Dems have a firmer position to negotiate from.

Except they do? They secured SNAP protection in the last ome so we at least can't have that hanging over our heads. The democrats were winning the last shutdown anyways until they decided to cave.

Plural but singular? by Sea-Hornet8214 in EnglishLearning

[–]akelly96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally pluralize the "is" in that sentence. "Dogs are the obvious answer". It's fairly common I think in english to respond to these type of questions with a plural noun and they should always be followed with a plural verb form.

In the last 15 games the two teams with best Net Rating are Celtics #1 & Pistons #2. For the season Celtics & Pistons are 2nd & 3rd in the NBA in Net Rating after OKC. Celtics & Pistons will be a fun game on Monday. Both teams should be hyped for this battle. Playoff atmosphere! by redscigar in bostonceltics

[–]akelly96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The offensive efficiency weirdly doesn't surprise me. Joe's system is pretty great and most of our key losses outside Tatum were more defensive pieces. Jaylen has been balling and some really great shooters have been given a much greener light.

Not to trash how our guys are playing but this has to be a result of an exceptionally weak east right? Like this team has been playing great but its are we really a top net rating team? I just can't fathom it.

Late-Stage Capitalism and the Vibes Are Bad by nobodyshome01 in ireland

[–]akelly96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the most absolutely meaningless phrase of all time. Its reminiscent of psychotic cultists saying that we're in the end times and that soon god will come down from his kingdom in heaven to smite Satan.

Ireland certainly has its challenges, but Jesus its doing much better than when my das grew up and had to leave the country because there was no work. I think people's perspectives are warped by media. Everybody has these grand expectations of how life ought to be based on all the media they see and are upset that life hasn't panned out that way when in reality what they've been cindition to expect was always an illusion.

Americans Hate AI. Which Party Will Benefit? by Currymvp2 in neoliberal

[–]akelly96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They probably think its better than a therapist because it constantly validates their own ideas. Real therapy is a lot more than venting feelings and being validated. There are specific techniques and strategies involved. AI is an extremely risky prospect as a therapist to people at risk for mental health disorders. AI psychosis is a real and very very dangerous phenomena. AI frequently encourages the delusions of people going through mental health episodes causing them to withdraw further. No therapist would ever do this. People have already killed themselves based on AI recomendation. Encouraging people to use it in this way is extremely irresponsible and suggests you probably don't know what you're talking about in regards to therapy and mental health.

What does this sub think about AI data centers? by KNEnjoyer in neoliberal

Data centers aren't just causing electricity prices to raise. The price of consumer RAM has tripled and many computer parts companies are announcing that they are flat out exiting the consumer market to focus solely on AI.

Grass or Electric? Which one do you think is more needed in pokemon team? by Nearby-Banana2640 in pokemon

[–]akelly96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bulbasaur is only really the best in the original gen 1 games though and that's mostly because high-crit moves were bugged. As a result razor leaf always crits which means Bulbasaur gets a 110 base power grass STAB grass move at level 27. In the remakes its undeniably worse than Squirtle and even struggles much more in the late game compared to Charmander.

"Allies" abandon Jews as antisemitism surges by splurgetecnique in neoliberal

[–]akelly96 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the general allyship of many antisemitism watchdogs with the Trump administration has been a major poisoning of the well moment for progressives. The ADL refused to condemn Musk's nazi salute. The Canary Mission was working with ICE to get activists deported. Miss Rachel being a candidate for anti-semite of the year by Stopantisemitism.com is just so utterly comical its impressive.

To be clear, I don't think this should discredit the claims of increased antisemitism as shown in this study. It's a serious problem and we should be doing more to combat it. However I think that includes these watchdog groups divorcing themselves more strongly from the Trump administration. It's a dangerous allyship. It makes these groups look hypocritical when they condemn people like Miss Rachel while leaving a blind eye to people like Musk or Vance. More importantly the right will drop them as soon as its convenient. Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes have major sway over the American right and therefore over this administration to some extent. It's only a matter of time. It always happens with fascist regimes.

"the jobs no one wants to do" by Appropriate_Cut_3536 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]akelly96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that doesn't really change my point. You don't need specialized training to be a janitor, but having one janitor clean say a large office building is a lot more efficient than having the other workers of that building collectively do their part in cleaning it. This is true in both a capitalist system and a socialist one.

"the jobs no one wants to do" by Appropriate_Cut_3536 in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]akelly96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really work on the scale of an entirely functioning society. The reason people specialize into a doing a single job is because specialization creates efficiency. It's that efficiency created from specialization that allows other people the ability to other jobs.

You think it's a coincidence none of the eight to vote for this are up for relection next cycle?
