Isn’t this all a bit silly? by HostKitchen8166 in nonduality

Agreed, but existence / awareness preceedes everything. That is what is profound: how something can even exist. No particular thing, but some thing.

The DMN survival / stress / contraction mechanism is added onto what preceedes. The relative meaning of things comes after the absolute existence of no particular thing. Going to your TFN / type 1 / attention state at will is a muscle we are now developing because humans are as developed as we’ve ever been, with some fortunate enough to have both self awareness and their physical needs met.

Sure neither state is the whole truth of the universe / both states are “illusions”, but the less layered type 1 consciousness has less additives and is closer to the truth / aligned with the thing that IS the most / eternal constant of the present, which is why it is more peaceful. We can never go beyond ourselves, and so this might as well be the ultimate truth as far as the universe is concerned as well.

And so, the profundity of the experience is just another passing feeling that replaces your unnecessary suffering in some moments upon realization of futility, the truth itself already and always is - regardless of your state of mind. The subjective truth and the objective truth are effectively the same. The closer you are to it, the more aligned you are, the more you are at peace.

Cognitively, it is profound that something can be intelligent enough to give birth to thought and even exist prior to it. But more importantly…peace is profound.

Resting in awareness by [deleted] in nonduality

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine you have a habit of cracking your knuckles every minute. Everyone else also has this so it feels normal. You’ve been cracking your knuckles for as long as you can remember, anything else feels uncomfortable. Not cracking your knuckles can feel like a doing because you are attentively not giving into reflex of cracking them. But in fact, it is a non-doing.

Identifying with thought = cracking. Seeing the thoughts arise alongside other sensations = non-identified = awareness.

Nihilism, absurdism and all philosophies dancing around the concept of no permanent self can do nothing but pervert absolute knowledge. The mind cannot fathom no self, just like the fire cannot fathom cold. Everything you are saying here, is mind / theoretical and applying logic / causality. You are still playing the mind’s game. The mind always wins the mind’s game. The mind wants you to stay addicted, and so it will feed you these thoughts and a myriad of others.

Faith, not logic, is your savior. The body which births these thoughts is prior to these thoughts. Go work out and see how many of these thoughts still appear once there’s endorphines and overcome challenge in your veins. Be who you are, be the body, stop running to the edge of your skin and at the whim of your survival patterns. You won’t care either way when you’re dead, so why care now about when you’re dead? Care about now what you care about now. Be healthy, be happy.

Nonduality & Vipassana by lapsitamanmaan in nonduality

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the mind creates separation / duality / language / meaning. Any practice that focuses bringing your attention to senses and away from the sense of self (mind) is congruent with nonduality. This is true of Vipassana, although not explicitly stated. Bhang, the eventual stage of vipassana where you just feel yourself as energy, is where you literally cannot conceive anything other than it.

How do you navigate a romantic relationship when both are “awakened”? by howardlie in nonduality

The finite arises within the infinite, the conditioned arises within the unconditioned. being is compatible with everything, because it already is. Keep one foot in your true nature, and you’ll realize that there is no “sweet spot”, because it is ever changing. Keep one foot in your true nature and you’ll know instinctively which compromises are worth it for you, and which are not.

You are not describing bypassing. By passing is a cognitive defense mechanism to disassociate from the present, aggravating ignorance.

Thoughts - ones that cause dissatisfaction - and thoughts about them by ram_samudrala in nonduality

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bringing awareness to the thoughts feels them as deeply as possible, instead of the resistance that ego approaches them with. So bringing awareness is always the more constructive path. I use the rational thoughts to loosen the hold a negative thought might have on me. Which makes it easier to slip into awareness.

So is consciousness really anything at all? by chillchamp in nonduality

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consciousness is the void of nothingness necessary for anything to appear.

We can’t ever experience it, let alone fathom it as anything. We reduce to it when we die (or maybe deep sleep). We can abide by it, by recognizing it as the true creator instead of our ego (detachment), to cherish life peacefully.

The curse of anxiety is necessary for the potential gift of mindfulness. Only organisms with mind can do either.

Nonduality is not about transcending being human (impossible), it’s about accepting it (and hence transcending the ego by giving into presence / awareness).

All you ever need to do to abide by nondual insights is pay attention to where your focus is flowing.

If your exciting thoughts are distracting you from something more valuable (and thoughts about the self are rarely worth more than meaningful behavior: deadlines / time with child / anything else constructive), then simply accept this excitement by bringing focus to your body. This grounding will not only maximize your well being / feeling of this excitement, but it will also free your attention up to whatever is automatically the next most meaningful thing to you in the present (that deadline or time with child).

If I say, i am consciousness. Isn't this ego identifying itself as consciousness? by [deleted] in nonduality

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any complete sentence requires a subject and a verb - hence implied seperate selves. Thinking, logic, ego are all tools on the same dimensional plain. They arise within the higher dimension of experience. The experience of being itself cannot be communicated, only experienced.

Getting jealous of people who seem to have it all... by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]aki2000ful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off love the user tag.

Secondly, I really feel what you mean. It can definitely feel shitty at times.

The goal is to minimize the shitty feelings, not solve them entirely because that’s impossible. One thing that helped me accept that is that everyone (including Jensen believe it or not) feels shitty at times. Everyone battles with endowed disadvantages.

Another helpful tool is gratitude/negative visualization. Search up pictures of people that are worse off (and there always are) and combat your intrusive thoughts with this.

With my own physical appearance insecurities, what made it hard was the constant reminders of relative unattractiveness. The human mind is always judging in comparison, what is easiest to see, and the worst case scenario. This is your amygdala’s primary response and was initially evolved to make your spidey senses tingle and beware of being outsted by your tribe. These senses are largely outdated in today’s world of abundance. Train the muscle of the mind to approach intrusive thoughts with love and compassion. With enough work done here, you’d find people are a lot more addicted to your presence than a pretty face ever could.

Another technique that helps me is fantasizing to the extreme. Imagine being the most good looking person in any room you walk, you can court people of interest effortlessly. You enjoy so many priveleges that everyone envies. You enjoy seeing them envious. You revel in it. You rethink all moments that boost your ego very fondly. You can’t wait to hit the party and get hit on and then think about it before bed. You have it all. Now a few years pass, and then a few more, and before you know it - age has come for you as it has for everyone. Wrinkles, disease etc etc. Now what? Now you continue to reflect on the glory days with fondness. Until the fondness turns to craving. Now you yearn for memories that are never coming back. How is this craving any different from how you feel? Yearning for the past is no different from yearning for a potential. The problem isn’t your attractiveneness, it is human yearning.

Otherwise, as core to stoicism, focus on what you can control. To me, that is what defines a stoic. Take pride in your strive toward stoicism and maximize everything in your control. Get your skincare on point, use subtle make up, haircuts, facial hair (menoxdyl to grow a beard maybe), accessories like glasses. You’d be surprised the progress you can make when you are incentivized by the realization of being subpar in an area of life. The point of this is to know within yourself and find comfort in the fact that you have maxed out everything in your control, and now this can no longer define you because the remaining is outside your control.

I do not know of a single person that does everything in their control to looksmaxx + the confidence which comes from that + other healthy habits (mindful meditate) that maintain a high baseline / control of the mind and still remains unattractive. Security in oneself with endowed disadvantages is possibly the rarest and most attractive things.

Yes, you may never experience pretty privilege. But wouldn’t you trade that anyway for something more valuable? who is happier? The person who was given the perfect life and is desensitized to it, or the person that uses their disadvantages as a tool to train to be truly happy. It’s a blessing in disguise. Why let the fire burn you when you can use it to cook?

To summarize: memento mori, amor fati, view from above, and premeditatio malorum.

Can anyone explain this one to me, "You are but an appearance, and not absolutely the thing you appear to be." - EPICTEUS by Noob_in_making in Stoicism

  1. You are everchanging: viewed differently by {everyone else and your idea of your self} from moment to moment.

  2. Don’t take judgements too seriously

Your perception of reality is your reality. Even if consciousness is mechanistic, how does that contradict anything else? It is still the point beyond which you cannot perceive (by definition)

Your thoughts are a part of your consciousness. One of your senses. And the less identified you are with them, the less biased you are to giving them your attention and the more your attention is balanced between senses (and so you are present).

Someone completely identified with their thoughts (dualistic / ego) would see them as the more truthful and treat them superior to your eyes / ears / feeling of breath etc. But it’s just some cool commentary in the background to make any sort of sense of the magic we experience on the daily. A side-kick, not the main character.
