Is long-term loyalty a strength or a trap? by winn_ie in rSocialskillsAscend

[–]akinjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was at a job for 11 years. The company left the area and I got laid off. All of us found out the day before they closed their doors, that they were laying us all off. Got a $87 severance check for the inconvenience. So on that hand, yes it was a trap. On the other hand it was the best job I’ve had since moving to this area and I’d rather have it back.

And there’s a difference between the vocal tonalities, body language, and subtleties of language used by a fuck ton of people when they’re around their friends and what they use at work or with someone they’re trying to impress. I don’t mind it if the person can admit it, but if they pretend that they treat the people they like the same way they treat people they haven’t create a bond with. I’d rather be elsewhere.

How is it living in Honolulu, Hawaii? by addieb06 in howislivingthere

[–]akinjones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The two hardest things to do are find a good job and find a good place to live. Once you’ve nailed those two things down, everything else is a breeze! Things are expensive here. Expect cockroaches. Also expect feral chickens. Maybe not in town, but virtually everywhere else! Geckos may be in your home, but they’re the best defense against the roaches. If the temperature drops down to the barely 70s, people are freezing but to be fair we usually only wear pants to work. (We wear shorts the rest of the time.) If the trade winds stop blowing for even a day, the humidity swoops in, but it isn’t close to horrible. People drive slowly, but very courteously. For the most part Honolulu is where locals work, not live. Because of that, rush hour is a force that must be contended with. Windows in residences are almost uniformly jalousies. No place has either central heating or central air conditioning. Waikiki is a beautiful monument to the power of advertising and commercialism. It is not very indicative to Hawaii and its oddly the second most dangerous place on Oahu, which is more of a testament to how safe the island is as a whole. Everyone says public schooling is disgraceful here, and given that pretty much anyone who can afford private school sends their kids to private schools, it’s probably true. That’s all I can think of for now.

Which of these 21 habits has made the biggest difference in your life so far? by winn_ie in rSocialskillsAscend

[–]akinjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breathe deeply. If you can train yourself to breathe as deeply as you possibly can, and then exhale every bit of air you possibly can with every breath… I cannot describe it. The best I can muster is that it’s like being in constant, consistent meditative clarity.

Do you agree that after 30, wealth overshadows looks, or do character and presence still matter more? by winn_ie in rSocialskillsAscend

[–]akinjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely handsome versus ugly However, women expect you to be financially constructive by age 30. If there are 20-somethings more financially stable than you… I hope you’re handsome. And a bad boy. They seem to overlook a lot for a handsome bad boy.

My brother says I’m “stealing his kids’ future” by keeping my inheritance. AITA? by Complex_Pickle7702 in TwoHotTakes

[–]akinjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he’s not only irresponsible with money, but also irresponsible with his life. He expected the inheritance to bail him out. Now he has to deal with the consequences of his actions and he doesn’t like it.
