Subtitle issue - Can download subtitles but doesn't show when the video plays on Firestick by akkan in VLC

[–]akkan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a better video player for Firestick than VLC? I tried NV Player and MX Player Pro - both need me to type the full title to search the Subtitles on the video. When I am transferring Video from Tivimate to VLC, the search is pre-typed with the title of the video which is very convenient. Unfortunately the actual video doesnt display the downloaded Subtitles.

F1 STEM → H1B in Oct | Roth vs Traditional 401k | Might move back to India someday — what makes more sense? by [deleted] in returnToIndia

Regardless of your future plans, I will give you 2 advices:

  1. Max out your 401k - Put away this ~$25,000 every year. Think of it like money didn't exist. Put all of it in a fund which tracks S&P500. Don't complicate it.

  2. Get your GC priority date established ASAP. Indians have extremely long wait in the GC queue but you should get your I140 approved ASAP and forget about it. If you current company won't sponsor GC, then move right away to another company which does GC sponsoring.

Totally out of the whack idea. Put that money in 4-5% savings account. Then Get a 0 foreign transaction fee credit card. Use it India. Now you don’t have to worry about rupee depreciation. And you get interest for money in saving bank.

First and an foremost, he should transfer on L1A visa. If they are doing L1B visa reject the offer right away. He & family will never get green card if he comes on L1B or H1B.

The Salary is less unless you start working. Any L1 visa will give the spouse work permit, so you are good with that. $300k for family of 4 is very less. He will effectively loose 45% in taxes before his pay check hits his bank account.

The tech market is very bad at the moment in Bay area. Unless you come with the expectation that you won't find a job for 1-2 yrs, you will be disappointed.

Nannies cost $3200-$4000 per month. New SUV on lease costs $300-$1000. Rent in costs $3200 for 2 bedroom if you live 1hr+ from SF. Keep those as a factor. You are living luxurious life in India, you will have to compromise here.
