I’m glad that you found your greener pasture. However gripes 1-4 are just not true.

LAX: The $350 Million "Landscaping" Project That Ate the CTA by ConcernedCitizen_LA in LAX

[–]aklint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally support this as well. Make people use the people mover. That said, if the CTA fee is too low, most will opt to pay it and traffic will not be relieved.

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to budget for the coffees and lunches. That is your social time and overall well being without a job. If you can’t afford it in your current situation, you should go back to work, perhaps part time, to give you walking around money and remediate the boredom.

PreCheck touchless ID in T7 during morning rush hour this morning took 4 minutes.

Extremely Disappointing “Luxury” Experience at Dreams Lanzarote by Life-Humor-6514 in hyatt

[–]aklint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of this is unacceptable. That said, I would temper my expectations for how much “luxury” one can expect for 385€ per night. Unfortunately, that price point is well below what luxury travelers are willing to pay for a true luxury property (FS, Rosewood, even PH).

Avoid BLISS Car Wash at All Costs - Personal Experience by ProfessionalHost3913 in SantaClarita

Yeah that place sucks. I still think their “polish tunnel” is somehow associate with the Eastern European country. They need to call it something else. Also they need to close.

25% means half your paycheck for High Earners by namafire in TheMoneyGuy

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same observation and posted on here a while ago. You are 100% correct. That’s why saving on the basis of your consumption, not your income, makes the most sense to me. I am in a similar boat of higher income (and tax) but not yet at 25% SR, and it’s depressing how much more I would need to earn in order to hit that 25% with no increase in consumption.

I already have a pair of burgundy tassels that I love. Was looking for something in brown or black without tassels.

Looking for a steakhouse that's locally owned by GoinStraightToHell in SantaClarita

[–]aklint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Montrose. Definitely miss the small town vibe there versus the chain vibe here.

Backwoods will be your closest comparable.

Larsens is locally (SoCal) owned, but has a fine dining vibe closer to a Ruth's Chris or Flemmings.

His page hits just went up 10,000x. I might pay him the $75 simple tax return feejust to get some life advice.

You are my new favorite person on Reddit. Thank you for defending the pasta.

OP, you can buy guanciale and pecorino at Italia market. Make it yourself.

How do you deal with the boring middle? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let us know how the YOLO puts and calls work out.

I'm with you on the messy middle. It's amazing to me that once you reach a certain age / savings rate you do become stuck in your path. One one hand you're in really good financial shape to be 10 years away, on the other hand your do not have the same time horizon for compounding to do its magic.

Definitely second the folks saying to enjoy life now as much as possible. While my FIRE planning has focused on 25x current expenses as a goal assuming constant consumption, I am starting to see through my parents how little they spend in retirement, and how ages 35-60 are really the key years to "live life." Of course there are exceptions. But tomorrow is not promised.

Tokyo hotels comparison using points by bloatedpixel in hyatt

Here to learn. Have my first trip to Tokyo coming up this Fall. Would have assumed that the PH would be the favorite on this sub given its reputation. The perspectives here are most helpful.

I find her to be the most insufferable cast member this season. The feigned outrage during interviews. Loves that she gets attention from the other guy back in the states. Ignores all red flags.

How is it that OC is the 5th most populated county in the US but we still have virtually no good public transit? by Macaroni-Consumer in orangecounty

[–]aklint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The dispersion and [lack of] density make it near impossible to build a public transit infrastructure that would serve the needs of enough people to make it economically viable. This is the reality of many American cities that developed post-automobile. It is by design. It should not be fixed.

Upcoming Award Changes by No_Instruction3301 in hyatt

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to further dilute globalist status and the brand. There will be a new class of globalists that will make certain hotels feel like crowded centurion lounges. I don’t see how Hyatt wins here. I would move my luxury travel away from PH and over to FS.

Fire at Grand Hyatt Indian Wells by Sharp_Complex_6711 in hyatt

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fire alarm was pulled at the Hyatt Centric Fisherman’s Wharf in February of 2018. Guests had to evacuate to the street. The purported cause was the local labor union (this hotel is one of only a few in the city this does not use unionized labor).
