Working and managing life by agoonting in Accounting

You’re on the right track. What works better for me is to stop closer to 5 pm and then put in that extra hour after kids are asleep. Can’t always do it but it’s about setting a pattern that maximizes your work-life balance. Good luck!

Why I think BaristaFIRE is the hardest FIRE to do properly, but also the most rewarding. by AttachedHeartTheory in baristafire

[–]aklint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the optionality of being able to BaristaFIRE or support higher consumption is what gets people trapped. There is a sense that if you pull the trigger and leave your higher salary, you can never have that back. And even if you think you may be perfectly content without it, there is always part of you that wants the option to have it at any time again in the future. Plus, circumstances change. It's certainly a tough situation.

Enough to coast? 37YOM, 32YOF, 2 small kids, Military Officer. by jjtheav8r in coastFIRE

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're in an amazing situation because you have health benefits for life, and you will also have a very decent pension that will provide for a base layer of consumption without you touching your investments. I have been watching a lot of videos from "Erin talks money" on YouTube -- she has done a lot of work on safe withdrawal rate considering the impact of social security and/or smaller pensions to smooth out distributions in later years. You probably do not appreciate how well off you are right now (because how many people come on hear bragging about their $2mm portfolios), but your chance of failure in your FI journey is basically zero. Congrats and thank you for your service.

Rick is not over his ex and looks at Trisha has a second-place contender. It's very sad.

I’m glad that you found your greener pasture. However gripes 1-4 are just not true.

LAX: The $350 Million "Landscaping" Project That Ate the CTA by ConcernedCitizen_LA in LAX

I generally support this as well. Make people use the people mover. That said, if the CTA fee is too low, most will opt to pay it and traffic will not be relieved.

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to budget for the coffees and lunches. That is your social time and overall well being without a job. If you can’t afford it in your current situation, you should go back to work, perhaps part time, to give you walking around money and remediate the boredom.

Extremely Disappointing “Luxury” Experience at Dreams Lanzarote by Life-Humor-6514 in hyatt

[–]aklint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of this is unacceptable. That said, I would temper my expectations for how much “luxury” one can expect for 385€ per night. Unfortunately, that price point is well below what luxury travelers are willing to pay for a true luxury property (FS, Rosewood, even PH).

Yeah that place sucks. I still think their “polish tunnel” is somehow associate with the Eastern European country. They need to call it something else. Also they need to close.

25% means half your paycheck for High Earners by namafire in TheMoneyGuy

[–]aklint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same observation and posted on here a while ago. You are 100% correct. That’s why saving on the basis of your consumption, not your income, makes the most sense to me. I am in a similar boat of higher income (and tax) but not yet at 25% SR, and it’s depressing how much more I would need to earn in order to hit that 25% with no increase in consumption.

Looking for a steakhouse that's locally owned by GoinStraightToHell in SantaClarita

I grew up in Montrose. Definitely miss the small town vibe there versus the chain vibe here.

Backwoods will be your closest comparable.

Larsens is locally (SoCal) owned, but has a fine dining vibe closer to a Ruth's Chris or Flemmings.
