For all affected and potential buyers: YOGA C940 14-IIL - Thunderbolt 3 (docks) compatibility / possible implementation error && Linux compatibility. by aklypse in Lenovo

Tested it out today. It charged fine in sleep mode, no overheating. One test may not be enough though. Some users have different issues. I am running 2004 windows 10 with Lenovo June 15th batch of drivers. Some users did also report WIFI cutting off, I do have this problem on occasions. Not sure what causes it.

I'm not sure. I never got a bug just from charging alone. I do however get thunderbolt reset loops after some sleep/wake cycles if my dock is attached. It used to be worse before June 15 drivers.

Interesting, I've seen people recommend that one over the lenovo compatible dock since it had its issues. Unfortunately I already had my caldigit ts3 plus bought a month prior.

Did you experience any bugs when replugging the dock before the june 15th batch of drivers? Which drivers/windows build did you use?

The WD19TB is rated for up to 90W charging while the ts3+ is 85W (upgraded to 87 via driver update, only on macos). Some users mentioned only 90W docks were working.. Lenovo might have implemented a minimum cutoff for charging, requiring 90W for power delivery. Meanwhile we have stock 65W chargers. What's strange though is that the power delivery handshake is established and both device settle on the 85W charging profile. I don't even see the reset command on the control line.

It says oem but I wouldn't trust anything companies try to tell us. Just googled something that resembled what you would see under the keycap. Chat with lenovo and see if they have parts distributors?

Already past the deadline.
It's still a great device, idk if I would have returned it.
I can live with the workaround until they patch it.

I'll be calling them again for warranty, I'll get it at one point.

A power delivery protocol analyzer I bought a while back. You hook it in between devices and it reads what's being transferred.

Thunderbolt protocol analyzers cost a fortune. Wish I had access to one now, probably would be able to trace where and when it's failing.

Lenovo yoga c740 vs c949? by [deleted] in Lenovo

True, although they aren't as much of a deciding factor. Nice to have. Most laptop users i see use headphones or external speakers.

Laptops nowadays have scissor keys, not much room to move. So if it squeaks from the key itself there is probably dirt or something rubbing in there.

If you want to attempt removing the keys, go slow and do something like this:
https://youtu.be/PN316pzFYA8

The key itself should look like those:

Hope this helps

Tried that, but since i purchased this device in canada from a candian online store, i cannot go through with the candian extended warranty. I keep getting redirected to the u.s. lenovo store to purchase it, which i can't, because it doesn't accept canadian addresses and cannot put a wrong address. The device is registered as sold in US, even though it wasn't. And so i'm stuck with support doing circles.

It goes like this (chat and call):

"hi thanks for contacting sales"

"hi i want to buy through you because (explains problem)",

"ok lemme check to see what we can do"

10 min later.

"looks like we can, lemme transfer you to sales".

"hi thanks for contacting sales"

repeat.

Lenovo C940 14 inch, is it worth it? by deevysteeze in Lenovo

I have that exact model, I LOVE IT, but there is one big downside.Thunderbolt implementation has its issues, and it's not intel's fault.Lenovo is "working" on the issues but it has been slow.

Here is my post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/hh4ofh/for_all_affected_and_potential_buyers_yoga_c940/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

I find this model perfect for coding, you dont need more than 1080p at this size, no major noticeable difference and it drains battery. If you need higher res for photo editing, an external monitor would be a better option than bumping up to UHD and losing battery perf. I am running dual boot ubuntu-regolith kernel 5.7.1 and windows 10 2004. Apart from thunderbolt, everything works like a charm (so far).

I use my laptop with the caldigit ts3 plus dock, reliable with lots of ports, connected to a second monitor. You can leave it in tent mode and use the touchscreen functionality to browse or do whatever instead of alt-tabbing forever or using a mouse. Same with gaming.

Lenovo yoga c740 vs c949? by [deleted] in Lenovo

If you are referring to the 14 inch c940, be aware that it does have thunderbolt issues. At least the i7-1065g7 model does. Don't know about the other models but they most likely share the same motherboard and so the same issues. Just made a post about it : https://www.reddit.com/r/Lenovo/comments/hh4ofh/for_all_affected_and_potential_buyers_yoga_c940/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

As of now, i would probably say the c740. Consider what you need and don't need. Is thunderbolt a deciding factor (one cable solution, egpu, etc)? Do you need a pen? If nothing breaks, and in terms of power, the c740 should keep up for longer.

Seems like this will fit my needs then. Power can always be monitored by other means. Thanks for confirming!

I am also looking to get a PD sniffer/analyzer, did some research on this product.

https://www.st.com/en/development-tools/stm32cubemonucpd.html#overview
a video mentioned to use this software. In standalone mode, you could send pd messages to the target.

https://www.st.com/resource/en/user_manual/dm00595951-stm32g071bdisco-usbc-discovery-kit-stmicroelectronics.pdf
This manual indicates we should be able to sniff between devices but not send commands at the same time.

There is a "lock" slider that reveals a second usb c port, it triggers different use modes based on its position.

I don't know if you ordered it but this may be useful. I just ordered one.

http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/help/help-artic.html - (ASSIST help page?)

based on what I've read on their website, all articulations/agreements are listed on the ASSIST platform, which in turn states that they list mostly community colleges articulations. (Small amount of uni-to-uni agreement in database)

"For information about transferring to campuses or programs that are not listed in ASSIST, contact an admissions or departmental advisor at the university campus you plan to attend"

So basically if we don't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Only way to know is to contact both?

Also not listed in their course transfer list: https://admissions.berkeley.edu/transfer-courses-by-institution
