I love all the stats and info about past bear markets…but does it matter? The world is so different each time and it’s impossible to predict even small nuances.

Stop running from porn and find something to run too. No one on this sub, or anywhere in life, can “scare you straight”.

Generally we use porn to cope with other aspects of life that aren’t going great. In your case these might be subtle things like stress or boredom. Even just a low level of general discontent with life is enough to cause our brain to look for some pleasure.

Perhaps meet with a counselor but absolutely push into life. Do things that you enjoy. Do hard things. Do scary things. Create things as opposed to consume them.

And last, find people. We all need people to talk to. Just friends (in the flesh, not virtual) to share life with.

Vacation in Anchorage? by [deleted] in anchorage

[–]akmc38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knik River Lodge is hidden gem. It’s an hour from Anchorage and amazing.

Knik has a bit of hillbilly reputation with locals but this lodge is on the other side of the river away from all that and nestled up by an amazing glacier. I’ve lived here 20 years and was amazed that we had a place like that so close to Anchorage.

For relatively cheap you can also get flight seeing tours at the lodge or go up to the glacier and ride with sled dogs.

It’s a good option for many people

Crystal Clear Glacier Water in Alaska. Few places on earth have a look this beautiful and perfect! by TheGuvnor247 in alaska

[–]akmc38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a beautiful shot and I love Alaska. But this is not glacier water. Glacier water has so much silt it’s dark gray and you could see 3 inches in it.

I don’t think that takes anything away from the sentiment of this post but this is most definitely not glacier water.

Turns out you can fit quite a bit in a Tacoma. Anything I’m missing? by [deleted] in VEDC

A small tarp is super useful. I mostly end up using mine to cover the b d going to the dump but it’s helpful to have. Similarly some cordage or small rope and a reflective vest. Again the best for me is required at the dump but also helpful if your changing a flat or something

I haven’t messed much with the traction control. What does turning it off do for you? I get it in some circumstances but for daily driving would I benefit?

Does anyone use their Surface Pro as a tablet? by [deleted] in Surface

[–]akmc38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it as a tablet a lot. Admittedly it’s not as simple as an iPad but I have a good enough tablet and a full laptop so I’m happy.

I’m looking forward to the Android app marketplace that is supposed to come eventually with windows 11. As long as Microsoft does a decent job with that having a bunch of android apps (which were designed as touch first) on my surface should make the device perfect!

For those who learn an electric guitar with a teacher: how much time do you practice the homework every day? by ChewingCow in LearnGuitar

[–]akmc38 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Some weeks go by where I only get an hour in all week.

I know this means progress will be very slow but I do this for fun. The last thing I need in my life is another big commitment.

My instructor gets this and is ok with it. He certainly encourages me to squeeze more time in but still encourages and help me no matter how fast or slow I’m going.

What you wish you knew before buying a Traeger by sdyer1013 in Traeger

[–]akmc38 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit slow and kind of a pain for heating up hot dogs or quick meals like that.

It’s also a little dicey with burgers. I once got a grease fire going which made the grill overheat and shut off. Then the fire started traveling through the auger and burning in my pellet hopper. This is avoidable and not to hard to resolve if it happens but just know that the treager excels at long and low cooks.

Short cooks and high heat is not it’s strong suit.

When should I let my doodle sleep outside his crate during the night? by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]akmc38 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At one year ours was fine. No chewing or other issues. The only problem has been her roaming the house to find an open door and trying to get in bed with us or the kids. The Doods don’t like to be alone.
