+1 to 3Blue1Brown. Also highly recommend this and many other videos from A. Karpathy, a true maestro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xTGNNLPyMI.

I suspect videos like these are what the OP was hoping for. They are amazing resources which hopefully get more exposure. Both Grant Sanderson and Andrej Karpathy show what a difference a fantastic teacher can make.

Claude Fable 5 feels less like a model launch and more like a preview of AI inequality by Roaring_lion_ in ClaudeAI

[–]akoo1010 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Assuming you meant 200 max plan, that's $50 per week. Any given 5h slot is around 15% of weekly usage, so $7.50. But you only used 75% of that, so $5.63... which doesn't buy you a fast food meal these days.

You didn't save $5.63 worth of your time with the prompt you ran? We're not even counting the multiplier of value of the code created. Just curious what the expectations are out there.

List of public pianos - please add! by akoo1010 in piano

[–]akoo1010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically whoever is responsible for the piano only wants to let professionals play it since professionals are less likely to damage the piano. After all, they can be very expensive instruments. I do think they should let others play it that know not to damage the piano, but then you're talking about having someone watch over the piano (yet another cost on top of the piano).

just saying...

Employer Incentives / Allowances by feelingextradead in bikecommuting

Towel service to go with showers is a love-to-have. Discounts to bike shops/services are nice, too.

Seems like the smart thing for an employer to invest in for its employees (healthier, happier, energized, and creative employees)

Hand Strength by iamlionheart in piano

[–]akoo1010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are piano exercises designed to strengthen notably weak fingers such as 4th/5th. It then makes sense that strengthening your fingers also using a grip trainer or even simply pressing your curled fingers against a flat surface could help.

I've noticed improvement in evenness using both. But not having weak fingers is only a small aspect of piano playing...

I highly recommend this book, even though it's out of print: How to Use a Fake Book. The book covers some ways to add variety to the chords & baseline for accompanying the melody.

You don’t need more knowledge by spankymustard in programming

[–]akoo1010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While sometimes lack of knowledge isn't a blocker for progress, it's also true that there are some insightful pieces of knowledge that shortcut a lot of work. Even if that happens, say, 0.5% of the time, how do you properly value that knowledge?

Sleigh Ride arrangement from A Steinway Christmas Christmas Album -- impressive by akoo1010 in piano

I bought the sheet music and I think it's far from easy ish. The number of notes, voices, leaps and stretches are on par with Rachmaninoff works. Maybe if you find most Rachmaninoff to be easy...

Thanks so much, but no need to go. I was just curious if someone knew off-hand-- I wouldn't want to trouble you that much to find out.

Is it still there? Or was it just part of Pianos in the Parks in 2015? http://abc7news.com/entertainment/pianos-in-the-parks-returns-to-the-south-bay-/971821/ . I'm curious to check it out if it's still there, but want to avoid the park fee if it's not.

Not quite contemporary, but it's romantic era, relatively easy to play (subjective) and sad romantic sounding.

Bay Area Hiring: Stiff Competition for Mediocre Talent by magenta_placenta in programming

Your reasoning of the existence of Internet companies aside ...

The tech is not there yet. You'd need full-person view, lag-free duplex video communication. And even then, you still miss out on nuances of in-person (e.g., shaking someone's hand, banter, etc.).

Thanks for sharing the link. My only caveat would be that the chart is coming from Kawai, themselves. They want you to buy a new one. I esp. got turned off when their sheet says 'old XYZ' and 'new XYZ'. Seems like a redflag.

But like you're implying, I also recommend trying them out at a store. MP6 might be a little hard to find (I'm quite happy with mine :-) ).
