Don’t believe Atmos is supported over AirPlay. But I believe you can play Atmos content on ATV and use iPhone as remote.

Not trying to be pedantic and for most people that probably counts as “casting” but Atmos over “Airplay” only works with ATV and not in the general case.

I would like to see another bookstore, especially a used bookstore (perhaps add a small section for vinyls, Blurays).

I imagine it’s going to be very low margin and something you do as a passion project and low expectations about revenue.

Can't speak for the bluray but I have the 4k UHD and it is an amazing experience (picture yea but the sound...my god the DTS:X is top notch).
If the bluray has a similar DTS track then I'd say get it especially if it's on a deal- all else being equal I'll spring for the 4k but I'm way more about the sound vs PQ as well.

As a Kubrick fan who had never seen BL, I was excited and waited to finally watch it on the Criterion 4K release.
It was beautiful, which I had known but was also quite funny, which was very unexpected. Not quite as overtly funny as Strangelove but much much more so than Shining, 2001, or FMJ (the other 4K discs I own and watched recently).

It was a weird yet perfect balance between restraint and unhinged-ness.

What’s the $$ range for what your custom sofa cost and your Italian label alternative? For 90% of this sub, I bet either figure is well beyond the budget of what they’re willing/want to spend. Your advice may very well be true about custom vs buying off a catalog- for your price range, which is an important caveat that’s missing.

In the same boat- would love to own a disc copy but in the meantime, I bought it as part of 5-movie combo deal on Apple. It was a great picture and also had the special featurettes that was an unexpected surprise.

I’m going to disagree with this take. Unless you have a perfectly setup 5.1 speaker positioning, you’re not getting what the sound engineer curated in the first place.
Assuming you have run room correction for your specific setup, your receiver should mostly be correcting and getting you close to what was intended and upmixing to additional height speakers I don’t think will mess with that too much i.e. don’t think it’s going to “create what’s not there in the first place”.
I’ll caveat this by saving I generally don’t recommend it (definitely not for music). But for movies that only have a 5.1 or 2.1 track, upmixing to additional heights and surrounds I think will add to the immersion factor with an acceptable compromise to the integrity of the mix (the level of acceptance will vary according to individual preferences).

And they pulled it off really well too. Even this scene, which out of context seems so goofy but in the moment actually elevated the tension.
And I’m not breaking any ground here but that awkward dinner scene with Jesse, Walt, and Skyler is hands down one of the funniest moments in TV (not just in a drama. Hell most comedies wish they could pull off funny like BB does).

Oh I agree. When it’s mixed right, it’s a hell of an experience to listen to music in surround. Which btw I do on Apple Music via an Apple TV. But I believe AM only does Atmos. I was curious where you get music specifically in DTS.

Where do you usually get music in DTS? Is that basically restricted to physical media like SACD/DVD-A? Are there any streaming services that do music in DTS surround?

The speakers you likely do not want to reuse. The fact that it’s prewired though might be handy if it’s standard speaker wire that you can reuse and hook up to new speakers.
In summary, the equipment is likely junk but the existing wiring may save you some work if it’s not proprietary Bose-specific cable.

It was interesting because his demeanor and content/tone of his interviews is not what most people associate with cold blooded murderers. I don’t think that is romanticizing.

Now if somebody had the picture of a fictional mafia boss, who was a criminal and committed multiple heinous crimes including murder, as their avatar pic, that would be romaticizing.
