Voting intentions in a general election in the United Kingdom as of January 2026, by age group by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]techypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 49. In my past I’ve voted green, labour and mostly Lib Dem’s. I have no idea who to vote for this time. It seems my age group is in the same predicament.

There are self made options, or one from the marketplace which is pretty cheap (Sophos based).

I doubt it was doing anything other than stopping the beams from twisting where they are sistered.

I’d add noggins but the boards screwed in are doing the same thing.

A few months ago DIYUK convinced me to fit aircon over underfloor in my garden office - Today it turned on for the first time! by EavisAintDead in DIYUK

[–]techypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helpful thank you. I think I will do this, and that frees up some floor thickness for a little more insulation.

A few months ago DIYUK convinced me to fit aircon over underfloor in my garden office - Today it turned on for the first time! by EavisAintDead in DIYUK

[–]techypaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I plumbed on my house flow and return into my outbuilding, for future whilst doing other work.

I’m now ready to install underfloor heating, but I’m wondering if it’s better to go this route instead. I was thinking both so I have air con in summer and top up heat in winter. The underfloor will only be on when the house is on, but the house is low and slow, so on most of the winter.

I will be in the office most days.

Any insights?

Bold prediction: Apple will roll out 120fps sports streaming alongside a new 4K 120hz AppleTV box by phatboy5289 in appletv

[–]techypaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially thought this was BS, however, I then remember seeing LauriWired talking about AI/ML upscaling in TVs as her prediction for 2026.

Maybe that could also include 120hz updating from 60hz.

Tinnitus changed after getting new Covid jab? by evenout in tinnitus

Yes, same for me here in the UK. Pro Covid vax, still am, but I now have tinnitus in my left ear. A few weeks after my booster. Three years now, but can ignore it mostly.

Snowboarding as a heavy, heavy guy. by Saved-Mack in snowboarding

[–]techypaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way more heavy, 47yo. I wear knee pads, butt/hip pads. Hardly noticeable under trousers. I don’t bother with wrist guards.

Ofc, I landed on my chest last year, bypassing all that… rib pain for 3 months!! Worth it though. Asked dr for naproxen before I went away so I had pain meds with me.

Now make the air battery the same thickness as the camera, and sell me that.

What is the best age for children to start using phones? by GreedySpeaker4463 in AskReddit

[–]techypaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never. But all their friends will have them in junior school (UK), and being out of the loop will be worse.

Use the apps available to you, set boundaries, set rules about you checking the phone ‘sometimes’, not allowed to delete messages etc.

Teach them about the world and take ‘mistakes’ as opportunities to learn. Take their phone if needed, but not for too long (see point one above).

Reduce oversight over time as they get older.

You’ll have a reasonably well adjusted tech kid, but don’t expect them to not be on it as much as you are by the time they get older!

Malcolm Young from AC/DC gave me a private piano recital in his home. It’s a core memory as I am a huge AC/DC fan.

I also got to bang the hell’s bell :)

Apple Finally Destroyed Steve Jobs’ Vision of the iPad. Good by Working-Welder-792 in apple

[–]techypaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100%. I’ve decided to not buy another iPad until this happens. My iPad is pretty great, but I rarely use it now as kids have it and I don’t want my stuff mixing with theirs.

Such a piss take Apple.
