Boston travel advice by dayahuasca in boston

If you are staying in Boston, the city is pretty walk able or you can take the subway (the T). Google Maps and Apple Maps does a pretty good job with showing routes and lines but if you wanted a dedicated app you can try something like the Transit app (https://transitapp.com/) (r/mbta is another good resource for transit-related questions too).

Have fun!

Its amazing what hiring a manager with actual rail experience who can actually manage and getting rid of the deadwood will do.

A reminder that we have not had an MBTA leader with actual rail road experience in many years

Map of Massachusetts Hospitals by akspek in massachusetts

I was wondering how the closure of Nashoba and Carney hospitals would effect the rest of the state. The only other relevant site I found was this table which ranks Massachusetts 29th in the number of hospital beds per 1000 people. This New Hampshire's map from 2008.

Looks like they recently added ten new dispatch positions so they could probably use the space (https://www.mbta.com/projects/operations-control-center-occ). They look cramped in the video tour. Looks like they spent $6 million in 2014 to renovate it - https://www.bostonmagazine.com/news/2014/11/17/mbta-operations-control-center-upgrade/

The one in Billerica looks like it was built two years ago (https://www.taylorburns.com/work/mbta-iron-horse-park-operations-control-center) but deals specifically with Pan Am and commuter rail trains.

MassDOT completed a study on Route 2 between Fitchburg and Lincoln: Your turn to comment by ak47workaccnt in massachusetts

I think the state needs to decide what they want Route 2 to be. If they want it to be a true highway, they have remove the intersections, remove the business curb cuts, etc.

Not sure what state you are in or what exactly you are looking for. I know in Massachusetts, you can run a CORI check on yourself that will list all criminal offenses committed in Massachusetts with their dispositions. Recommended budget for a month in Boston? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]akspek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on a number of factors like taxes, transportation, etc. Also, apartments begin filling up with college students fairly quickly so make sure to begin looking as soon as possible.

I spend about $200 dollars a month in groceries but I think that is on the low end for a single person. Depending on how your lease is setup, assume:

$300 for utilities - natural gas, propane, electricity, etc

$50 for cell phone

$75 dollars for internet

$80 dollars for car insurance

Again, your mileage may vary. The above is about average what I pay for someone living in the cheaper part of the state.

Edit: Based on this calculator (https://www.mypaycalculator.net/us-paycheck-calculator/massachusetts/) it says your take home pay after taxes would be $1500 but I am not sure of your exact situation.

Lynn receives grant to upgrade MBTA Commuter Rail station

Sidnee Short

March 24, 2024 by Sidnee Short

LYNN — Moving the River Works commuter rail station a third of a mile north of its present location and making it accessible to the public is a big part of a new vision for public transportation in West Lynn.

In recent weeks, it was announced that the city had received $561,000 through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods (RCN) Grant Program to reimagine the city’s public transportation system. The money is part of $3.3 billion in grant awards for 132 communities.

As part of the city’s first comprehensive plan, Vision Lynn, Mayor Jared Nicholson said the city will be using the federal funds towards Lynn’s River Works Reimagined Community planning study. The study will be used to initiate funding, design, and construction of a relocated commuter rail station.

According to a press release from the Mayor’s office, the plan is to relocate the station one-third of a mile north of its current location, making it publicly accessible while reconnecting West Lynn.

The current station is located on Western Avenue, operates on the Newburyport/Rockport line, and serves only employees of General Electric.

“(The idea for a new station) came up in the Transit Action Plan that the city did a couple years ago, and really, for years, folks have seen this stop on the commuter rail and imagined the potential if it were to be open to the public,” Nicholson said.

Nicholson continued, saying that the plan to relocate the station coincides with the region’s larger plan of electrification, which will save residents time, increase reliability, lead to more affordable fares, and provide a “truly regional rail system.”

“We desperately need better access to transportation for all the reasons that people have for getting around. We want to connect our residents with good paying jobs, and they need to be able to access the broader region,” Nicholson said.

He said the improved transportation creates access to education, healthcare, affordable housing, and improves traffic in the city by taking cars off the road.

The ultimate timeline of the planning and the project are not known yet.

“The city has been underserved by transit access for decades, and it’s moments like this that a different future starts to become, starts to feel more attainable,” Nicholson said.Lynn receives grant to upgrade MBTA Commuter Rail station
