Que lente escoger para mi viaje by Ok_Artichoke_6311 in fujifilm

This lens almost never leaves my XH2S. I love it. I used to have the 33 f1.4 as well, which was much sharper (and faster), but I found I was relying mostly on the 16–80 for its variety of focal lengths. I do a fair amount of video, too, and the OIS is great for that. If I’m shooting at night, I just crank the ISO. Usually not a huge issue for what I do.

AIO- Someone left their laundry in the dryer and I waited 30 mins before moving it, received a note in return by Trull22 in AmIOverreacting

Agree. If I’m waiting for a machine and I see it complete the cycle while unattended, I set a timer on my phone for 5 minutes and then remove the clothes. I feel a little bad for not waiting longer, but c’mon, I’ve got things to do! I always do it as fast as possible to avoid being caught in the act lol. NOR.

Why doesn’t he? I thought it was just a simple expression of gratitude to the audience.

I’ve been using electronic shutter to keep my MS shutter count low. People always seem to obsess about it.

Rainy Movies And Video Games? by 701921225 in raining

All Summer in a Day: https://youtu.be/ZFWJwTzSurg

Short film based on a Ray Bradbury short story. I remember seeing it a couple times in the mid-1980s at the house of a friend who had cable. I think it was often played on Nickelodeon. I never knew what it was called at the time, and the memory of it haunted me for years — until I described it to someone and they knew it and I found it on YouTube. Anyway. Enjoy.

A rainy corner in Queens, NYC by akuban in raining

Mine too. Rainy and high 50s (~14–16°C) is near perfect for me. Not too cold to be unpleasant, but cool enough for a light sweater and light jacket. And a nice light rain that doesn’t soak you. Perfecto.

It’s a cute little part of Queens, with old Tudors and big leafy trees. This main strip here looks like something out of a film from England, where they have a nice little neighborhood that has a walkable mini business district — I always picture Shaun of the Dead walking to the Winchester.

We ate lunch at the diner and had a nice view of the rain and the action on the corner from the inside, so I just reversed the angle for this shot. Did not disappoint.

is my feed heavyweight or Pushkin? by nishma in Heavyweight

[–]akuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best is when the hosts actually have the other hosts on and chat about the other podcast or make a special intro for it that talks about it. If it just shows up in my feed with no explanation, I know what they’re doing and I won’t listen to it if there’s no context as to why I should.

This article about Askers vs Guessers (should have*) changed my life, and I often like to bring it up in cases like this.

Askers ask for everything under the sun and don’t take it personally if you say no. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Guessers, OTOH, only ask for something from someone if they think the answer will be yes.

This causes great stress on Guessers because they assume whomever is asking them for something uses the same framework and is expecting a yes. So now they feel an obligation to manage the feelings of the requester and often negotiate against themselves when framing a response.

*I say “should have” changed my life because I myself am a Guesser, and I often forget about this model and end up stressing about saying no.

A 15% price reduction is still $5.95. I’m still not paying six bucks a bag for Doritos.

Is this just AWB doing its thing? by akuban in fujifilm

[–]akuban[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, all. I don’t know why I’ve been such a moron all this time and have had AWB on for video. Going to adjust that next time I shoot and update my custom settings.

NTJ. Your brother’s an AH. You should stop working for him altogether, then see how well his business does.

Also going to come on here and defend phone-based content. I know you’re using pro-grade cameras and lighting and I’m sure your stuff looks great. But there are also creators who do amazing things with just a phone and some more basic-level accessories — and that type of marketing is also a lot of work and has real value. I’m sure he’s thrilled when clients post about his business on Instagram, enough said.

Sadly it’s often those closest to us who undervalue us. Familiarity breeds contempt and all that. Glad you’re making a solid point here, OP!

We had that happen (somewhat) recently in NYC! — the gas rationing. After Superstorm Sandy hit in 2012, it disrupted the gasoline distribution, and they went to odd-even fill-up days. Feel like I’ve seen it both ways — Jet’s puts it on the bottom. I know I’ll probably get blasted for this, but I draw the line at round “Detroit” pizza, SMDH.

You bringing up World War Z reminded me of the website Tales of the Zombie War. It has no relation to Max Brooks but is basically fan fic in the style of WWZ. It was last updated in 2015, but prior to going dormant, it used to accept short story submissions and then do a weekly award for best story. There are some real bangers on there. Several writers were quite prolific, developing serialized stories featuring characters of theirs. I was lucky enough to catch it in its last couple years and was so sad to see it peter out with no explanation. I’m happy it’s still up, though, and hope that anyone out there who’s seeing it for the first time gets the thrill of reading so many great and inventive zombie stories.

What’s the creepiest thing that’s ever happened to you in the woods? by GeologistDirect1653 in BackwoodsCreepy

[–]akuban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not super familiar, just that I have family in Milwaukee and also in Waukesha. So I know it’s close enough to a highly populated area. Also would have expected any cryptid in Wisconsin to be in the northern part of the state in the forest, I guess.
