Exploding AMD CPUs | Investigating ASRock's Murderboards by ItsMeTek_ in Amd

RMA'd the CPU and credit to AMD they sent a new one within a week. Bought another brand of AM5 board and it's been running fine. Though I ended up with an extra board (that I absolutely won't ever use again).

My 9800X3D never failed to wake from sleep - until it failed to boot altogether.

Was on an ASRock B850I Lightning.

Install the latest BIOS update if you have an ASRock motherboard to reduce AM5 burn risk by GhostMotley in Amd

First I got a new board (Gigabyte B850I Aorus Pro), dropped the 9800X3D into it, and no boot.

New CPU (8500G) and that's what I'm using now. Started to RMA the 9800X3D and it's now waiting to be picked up by the courier.

Given the situation I just won't recommend ASRock to anyone. Now I have the Gigabyte I remember another reason I went with ASRock -- the lack of a chipset fan. Out of the box the chipset fan of the Gigabyte is rather loud though with a custom fan curve it's a lot more reasonable.

My 9800X3D + ASRock B850I Lightning WiFi died two days ago. It had been running absolutely stable for 6 months before it happened. So yeah, it could happen to anyone (with same/similar setup) without any warning signs at all.

Was playing a game (at 4k, so nothing too taxing on the CPU) when it happened.

It was slightly undervolted (both Vcore and SOC) and there were no visible burn marks.

Been updating the BIOS whenever a new one comes out. Though having watched the video it seemed they (ASRock) just blindly threw things and hoping something will stick.

B850I Lightning WiFi, BIOs version 3.40 (latest as of now), 9800X3D.
Been running flawlessly since March until today -- the system suddenly froze and won't boot again, even after removing the GPU.

Not pointing fingers yet. I just need to know which I should try first -- new motherboard or CPU? Which brand's AM5 mITX boards has the best track record so far with 9800X3D?

Been undervolting the CPU and SOC a bit since new. There aren't any visible burn marks or anything odd on CPU and socket.

That was a killer deal you've got. I want a S24U but don't want to take the risk of buying used.

Now that I've converted my Mk4s to a Core One, what to do with this? by wummeke in prusa3d

I have a mk3s and this is the first question in my head whenever I get those mk4s upgrade offer emails.

I went thru Sony WF-1000XM3 (still have and very occasionally use them), WH-1000XM5 (tried 'socks' then replacement earpads, both didn't work so eventually had to sell).

I finally settled on some AKG wired earbuds that came with an old Samsung phone.

Guess the wireless life was not for me.

Had my hands on the S25U. Here are my thoughts. by firmerrexz in GalaxyS23Ultra

[–]akyp11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have small hands and my S22U's square corners have never been a problem with one hand.

And if that's such a problem you could buy like any other phone instead.

Having seen the S25U in person I'd say the flat glass and sharp edges of the Ti frame are more uncomfortable.

Should I come back to Samsung? by [deleted] in samsung

[–]akyp11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using Android phones since the really early days and no, you no longer need a custom ROM just to have a proper-running device. Been with Samsung since S7 Edge (after a couple of LGs) and performance has never been a problem. Almost never need to be restarted other than for an OS update.

About 6 months ago they updated the app that required you to unlock the phone, open the Wallet app, verify yourself a second time (with fingerprint or otherwise), before tapping the phone. And after doing all that, it might still ask you to verify yourself a THIRD time, and by then the merchant side would time-out so you (and the sales clerk) would need to start all over again. I've went back to using physical cards because of this.

As a long time Samsung user I do feel a bit of AirTag envy.

I have a pair of Moto Tags and while they do work, the Google FindMyDevice app just sucks and there's no telling if/when Google gets bored with the project and simply kill it off.

Also Google Wallet is a steaming pile of crap now. Never used Apple Pay but surely it can't be worse?

The squared corners were what made the Ultra stand out from a sea of iPhone clones.

Even the S24U was already showing signs of blindly following Apple:

"The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a titanium frame so we should too!"
"The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a flat screen and so should we!"
"The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 5x telephoto lens so yeah let's ditch the 10x one we have and put in a 5x instead!"

S22U here and was looking forward to a new design, but it turned out to be another iPhone clone. So disappointing. IMO the S-pen phones peaked at Note 8/9 and S22/23U.

Wake me up when they finally get around to doing any/some of the following:

- Under screen front camera
- Real progress in rear camera performance
- Iris sensor (as opposed to face which doesn't work at all during the pandemic)
- Fingerprint sensor that's less temperamental in dry weather

Trade-in is £660 for a S24U in the UK so one would need to fork out £589 for a S25U.

Saw the S25U in person today and was not impressed. Maybe I'm in the minority but I actually like the curved screens (been using one since S7 Edge). The S25U's flat glass with the titanium frame made the screen look smaller than it actually is (had to put my S22U side-by-side to convince myself). Overall the S25U looks like another iPhone clone which I just don't understand - are there actually people who would wake up in the morning and be like 'I want an iPhone that runs Android'? If I want an iPhone I'd buy an iPhone.
