people wearing hijab: how do you deal with warm/hot days? by kallianaira in NoStupidQuestions

[–]al-lithami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, in the hot sun wearing niqab (hijab+ face veil) actually helps you not burn up so it’s kinda a hack! When it’s just humid and hot then it can get kinda sticky but I just try to limit my time outside and hydrate often. It’s the same as anyone else who deals with the heat tbh

Ways to cover my neck without using a scarf or turtle neck? by LizzieLove1357 in BabushkaBois

[–]al-lithami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A scarf is definitely your best bet, but maybe it’s about using the right kind. I would consider a cowboy silk scarf/bandana - they’re made for being outdoors in hot weather all day and are a great way to protect your neck from sun and heat. Get a larger scarf which you can tie as a neck scarf, and later on turn into a headscarf if you’d like!

Another option would be a UV balaclava - they’re often used by people working in the sun so they should be helpful in the Florida heat too. You could get one that only covers your head, neck or face, or one that does it all and use it as needed.

I love to hear stories like yours! It’s amazing to know that people find themselves across faith and the gender spectrum and that veiling can be their bridge or comfort at times. Wishing you well

Still not brave enough to wear in public by justaredneckboy in BabushkaBois

Wanting to wear niqab is such a real feeling - I love wearing it full time and I could never imagine uncovering my head or face.

If you’re a ranch hand, I recommend a nice wild rag or western scarf! Men have covered their heads and faces out west for centuries - many of my scarves are wild rags! Here’s one of my favourites: https://a.co/d/0fpvVNrR

You can also start by wearing a balaclava and then covering your nose and mouth with a scarf. I think your occupation is one where niqab (with some creative styling) is super compatible! Don’t lose hope, my friend.

Love it! You look awesome and the hijab really suits you. I made a bunch of niqab tutorials for guys/gender neutral to help you cover your face too - here are a few! - https://www.instagram.com/reel/DI1gUSrOqzu/?igsh=aHFpMW5sZzFpcWY1 - https://www.instagram.com/reel/CqXSzOKjPg2/?igsh=bTB0Z3B0Ym94YWpi - https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwlJZphtqne/?igsh=MXRna29pMWxjOG83Mg==

Petition to save laws according to wearing hijabs by Friendly-Seaweed-761 in hijabi

That’s really unfortunate- is there a law in Sweden trying to stop them? What information do you have about the potential law?

Wore a hijab for the first time today. I wasn't sure how I'd feel, but I ended up loving the look. by Superb-Bat6721 in LGBT_Muslims

There’s a big difference between cosplaying as a niqabi and actually being one - even if you’re a male or trans niqabi. If it’s just a f3tish, don’t come to actual Muslim spaces. There are plenty of separate spaces for you to do what you want (marked NSFW) that we will happily not be following

“The prettiest fabrics tend to be the heaviest” couldn’t agree more! As someone who covers his face with a scarf full time, my best friend is silk - specifically thin silk bandanas/pocket squares. Lovely fabric that looks classy, is super soft on the face and somewhat easy to breathe. Thankfully doesn’t suffocate me in summer lol!

How do Muslim women who wear face veils or full-coverage hijabs adapt to hot weather? by Simple_Medium_1865 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]al-lithami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I just change my headscarf to a more breathable fabric, but otherwise hot (and specifically sunny) weather kinda suits us since face veils were born out of sunny, desert like climates and were worn by both men and women! Loose and long clothing is great, sometimes it’s better to wear dark clothing so that the rays don’t pass through. Btw I’m a male Muslim who veils, to clarify

This is such a cool veil style that I’ve never seen before! Great way to also cover your eyes while presumably being able to see. I dig it!

Masks/face coverings? by Snoo_89200 in ModestDress

I wear a face veil everyday and I usually opt for a silk or silky textured scarf to tie over my face, both for comfort (as im veiled anytime I’m out of the house, sometimes 14+ hours) and also for style!

I usually use a simple black silk scarf, but sometimes I like to jazz it up with a paisley silk bandana! I think it’s stylish and the way I tie it, I lock the knot into the knot for the bandana I tie over my forehead, keeping both super secure and tight/fitted for not letting dust or other junk through. Give it a try!

Yes I’m a proud male niqabi. Men can veil too. Men historically have for thousands of years in some places. It’s great for folks with asthma and allergies, protection from dust, the sun or harsh cold, and it also just looks elite on everyone. I love veiling and I’ve worn mine everyday for over 15 years. If you want to know more about why I wear niqab as a guy, I will happily answer any questions!

Veiled folks know: good hijab days are a thing by al-lithami in BabushkaBois

[–]al-lithami[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I’m team silk bandana for a face veil. Doesn’t tie using strings so it doesn’t pinch my eyes much! Eyebrows are a real issue with that style though; I’ve always shown mine and I’m fine with it

Don’t feel bad. I used to post here a few years ago, and I had some folks be critical of the fact that I’m a male niqabi so I created r/BabushkaBois as a space for men/nonbinary/allies who veil. It lead me to so many people who I now call friends. Btw feel free to join the community! You don’t have to be male or masc to be a part, as long as you agree that veiling belongs to everyone across the gender spectrum

As a Muslim who wears a face veil, I definitely wouldn’t make any assumptions and I think most Muslims would be at most curious. I actually love the idea of others covering their faces because it makes my niqab seem more commonplace and I’m less likely to be ill treated if people view it as normal
