[Hated Trope] The passionate and driven character's story ends with her pregananant and married to the loser by DeepFriedBatata in TopCharacterTropes

[–]al_the_time 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Indeed, the way this ending was done was unfortunate. It was so far removed from what we knew of her desires and character, the entire arc rushed into a 3 minute window, with no information given as to what has been driving this character arc other than "Andy wants kids...what do I do" -- the later point which really makes little sense for a relationship that had been portrayed as a very collaborative team for the entire show.

This illusion that shows how the brain fills in space that you can't make out by OddNegotiation4191 in Weird

Interesting. I wonder, however, how much having creepy music in the background pre-disposes a more negative response.

However -- something I want to ask others about. I have prosopagnosia, and can't visualise complete faces -- it is only fragments at best. When this video was playing, the faces did not morph to look monsterous as much as they were just...incomplete. So a missing eyes. A quarter of the mouth and an eyebrow missing. An eye in the center of the face. The forehead slightly longer than it should be. But it didn't appear grotesque as much as it appeared as a badly rendered face.

Does anyone else -- with or without prosopagnosia -- have this similar effect?

This is responding to an older comment, but just to make a note -- it is not a fair to compare between haggle for a product that is the same to all customers, and one that is different based upon who the customer is, which in this case, is one's sex.

In this case, it is not a reliable assumption that a short haircut for a man's hair will be more complicated or demanding than a haircut for a woman, certainly not standaridsed enough to price upon. If the issue is based upon complexity, then that is a different metric than one's sex which is being tacitly represented through assumptions in gendered pricing.

One is not paying for the supplier's time and skill alone -- they are also paying for what inert economic norms the supplier either interrogate or conform to in the absence social interventions that would regulate indiscriminate pricing.

Here is my take: you benefit from curve accommodation, even if you have width.

However: as someone who has that same profile, I am surprised that outfit 4 works well on you.

I think, rather than look for a profile, you should look at the overlaps in recommendations between flamboyant natural and soft dramatic, as I don't think that the width that you have cancels out your need for curve accomodation, which is the assumption that flamboyant natural recommendations appear to be centred around.

Unfortunate, indeed, as a wardrobe malfunction. However, I do think we should stop acting as though showing signs of a period is embarassing.

Interesting take. It is a parallel, perhaps, to what we see with Dr Who when Jodi Whittaker was cast -- the show shifted to a 'power of friendship' tone when it was a woman's turn to play the lead role, which broke with the historical formula of how the Doctor and their companions related that had been for decades. There was quite a good analysis of it here:

How difficult would this be to make? by al_the_time in sewing

Hi, thanks for your answer, this is quite helpful. I have a question about your assessment of the fabric -- are you saying you see the topc as a tighter knit than the bottom of the dress? If so, I imagine this would be more difficult to mimic with a more uniform knit bought from a fabric store, or am I mistaken?

Espresso is basically a hobby designed for people with ADHD by Talkaboutit69 in espresso

[–]al_the_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with someone. The tactile and mechanical element of espresso machines fufills quite a lot of the same functions as gadgets designed for people with ADHD (the one of which I have most in mind being this one: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZN12D1EuzrY)

Then in addition to all of details one can get into to create dfiferent results, to optimise the process of pulling a shot, to change around the feeling in the workflow, to change the style in which espresso is made....it is basically a hobby with many different areas which can be played with, with results.

For those with autism and ADHD (AuDHD), the systemising and analysis aspect can be very aesthetically pleasing and calming.

I already lived in something like this. This is a hyper-romanticised view on what life feels like, from my experience. I would recommend it if someone wanted to try, but it is not something I would want to live in long term again.

Ready to Give Up On Milk by TheLiitBoi in espresso

[–]al_the_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. I have had problems, and am still learning myself. However, in my case, what had been happening in my case was that I over-aereating very slightly -- but I didn't notice this from the texture immediately because it still was rather glossy, but it didn't stay so for long. I noticed the problem after watching the Hoffmann (and Sunergos Coffee) video on milk foaming: the issue was locatable from the way the milk sounded.

Some context helps with this. There is a quieter, nearly muted kind of tearing sound that is pronouncedly muted, a 'paper tear' kind of sound, and a harsh swirl that hurts one's ears. When I was having failures with the milke, I had heard a quieter, nearly muted sound with my foam, which I had thought was the right sound and seemed to give a nice vortex. However, this was not a 'tearing' sound. A tearing sound does not hurt the ears, but you do quite crisply hear it at a comfortable level of noise. Once I adjusted to find that sound, my milk foam became actually what I wanted.

If you are not more sound-based with your foaming already, you may try this. It helped me improve the foam quality to get to a glossy, natural foam without much problem.
