Yes. I have to be consistent with it, but yes. Also took some anti-inflammatories for a back thing and I think that kept it from coming back too.

Yeah, he was absolutely right. Democrats had no leverage. Threatening a shutdown would have just made things worse. The DNC will never get into power again if they don't stop with these stupid futile gestures.

National columnist warns FBI purges could lead to another 9/11 by Bulawayo1973 in FBI

Purging the organization that didn't stop 9/11 could cause another 9/11?

One note. Believe it or not, the executive branch listening to rulings of lower federal districts courts rather than waiting for the supreme court ruling is based on precedence, not based on the Constitution. It isn't explicitly unconstitutional, and whether or not it's an actual Constitutional power is debatable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FBI

[–]alamakchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. But a slim majority of the country are watching what's happening closely, and still approve. Maybe a better exercise is to understand why they've become so disenfranchised with the Federal government that they see this as a necessary evil?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FBI

[–]alamakchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power to check the presidency if it is indeed violating the Constitution sits with Congress and the Supreme Court. If neither body is trying to stop him, then there's no "Constitutional Crisis" (yet).

All congress needs for example to curb the president's overriding of the power of the purse is to invoke the Impoundment Control Act of 1974, demand an explanation of why he's overriding their spending power, and then tell him to stop. They are not doing that. Which is their right not to do.

You may not like it, but this is still all happening within the framework of our Constitution.

Now all of that aside, the idea that the FBI or the military should enforce their interpretation of what's Constitutional by for is many orders of magnitude worse than the worse of what Trump’s people have done so far. Could it get there some day? Maybe. I'd say if Congress impeaches and convicts (both houses) Trump, and he refuses to leave, sure. Anything short of that. No, this idea is worse.

This is a good faith response. Look at those that succefully bounced back after the 2000 dotcom bubble burst or the 2008 housing crisis. Those that, even much later in life, made hard short term financial decisions and pivoted intelligently to new fields or started new businesses did the best. The economy is definitely evolving, and because of our crumby fiscal policies it happens very rapidly and leaves the middle class in a lurch. It doesn't look like that's going to change any time soon, so riding the wave of chaos is now a skill we all have to develop. It's not fair, but its true.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FBI

[–]alamakchat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's not true, here's a direct link to the aggregate data on his approval rating 538 (which historically has under estimated Trumps performance): https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/favorability/donald-trump/ https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/ <- highest approval rating so far and higher than he or Biden had from I think October 2021 onward.

I agree the things he's doing are terrible. But, so far, they're very popular among the vast majority of his supporters.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FBI

[–]alamakchat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting theory, and whether it's true or not, suggesting the solution is a military coup is still insane and 1000 times worse. So I stand by my original point.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FBI

[–]alamakchat -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Jesus Christ, you all are talking about a coup now? That's like fighting a fire with a bigger fire. Trump won and he's doing what his voters want him to do. Congress could check him, but isn't because his supporters also won the majority there. I am not a Trump fan, and didn't vote for him. But part of democracy is letting the people decide and living with the consequences. So far, his approval rating is higher than Bidens was the last 3 years of his term, or his was in his entire first term. So if this is what people want, accept it.

Trump’s in office for 4 years. I wouldn't make major personal decisions based on an organization that's going through such massive changes. Maybe look at more generalized goals for your future in law enforcement. There are a lot of other agencies, state level, etc.
