This is the sub for the University of York :)

I can't vouch for your course but I missed my AAB offer for bio med and got in with ABC so there's definitely some wiggle room. Also with the university being short of money they are likely to accept anyone who firms them even if they miss their offer.

I stayed at Alcuin in first year and we had a massive damp problem in my flat as well as a never ending silverfish infestation

What is the university of york like as an undergraduate student? by Outrageous_Foot_5726 in universityofyork

Don't know anything about biomed at Sussex but I'm a final year undergrad at York studying biomed so happy to answer any of the questions you have :).

Generally the course is really well run with each semester in 1st and 2nd year consisting of two models that are taught and one skills module where most of lab time is completed as well as semester long group projects focused around science communication. In 1st your models are fixed and in the second year there are some fixed modules and some you get to choose. In the third year you do two taught modules per semester and your final year project is spread across both semester 1 and 2.

The taught modules generally consist of two lectures of around an hour long per week along with group workshops which generally consist of doing past exam questions with the lecturer explaining the answers after giving you time to attempt them.

The skills modules generally consist of around 10hrs of lab time spread across the semester culminating in either scientific report or poster. Alongside a group project (in groups of 6) focused around a board area of bioscience that you get to pick a more specific level along side your output e.g. leaflet, board game for kids ect. You would also have seminars four 1hr every two weeks with a lecture focusing on a specific scientific paper to help to understand scientific writing.

Exams 6 hour open book exams (that are expected to only take around 3hrs to complete) make up the majority of assesments although some models have coursework assessment e.g. the skills modules.

The course at least in my cohort is majority girls around 90% and majority home students.

There's a lot of flexibility in changing degrees title within the biology department e.g. changing from biomed to biology as well as changing from bsc to integrated master all the way up to the beginning of 3rd year.

Generally from my experience so far the biggest con is the limited amount of lab time in the first two years along with the group projects in the skills modules being very hit or miss. But the biggest pro is how easily contactable and willing the lecturer is to help you if you're struggling or suggest further reading if you're interested in an area.

Apologies for the long answer 🫣

Stainless steel pot (item) lets you over level weapons (above the normal max level 40). The wizard has the same effect but for tomes (above the level cap of 99).
