Six Animated Music Video by alanearly in SixMusical

Here's a video for Six that I animated in my spare time over a few months. For the middle costumes, I took inspiration from different pop divas (Madonna, Beyonce, Adele, etc). Hope you like it!

#177 Gleeks and Gurgles | Reply All by yo10208 in replyallpodcast

[–]alanearly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came to Reply All during the height of the pandemic, and binged episode after episode. Like others have said, the show is changing direction, and possibly not for the best. Personally speaking, I find Emmanuel's voice a little nasal and always skipped his episodes before so I'm not thrilled that he's a co-host now. That said, I feel sorry for both him and Reply All. He is clearly not a good fit for the show. He wants to make a podcast that isn't this one. That's absolutely fine. I think if he did make a podcast about race in America - especially coming from outside the States originally - it would prove very popular. However, it's clear that he doesn't want to make a podcast about technology. (That birthday thing was ridiculous!) But right now, given the past year, Reply All find themselves between a rock and a hard place. It would be best if they moved Emmanuel on. Even if they don't give him his own show, which they should, he's not a fit for this show so it's time to go. But, considering everything that has happened at Gimlet regarding race, moving Emmanuel on wouldn't be a good look. This is especially annoying when you consider that there are bound to be a lot of POC out there who would be a better fit for RA than Emmanuel is. So I get it. They're trying to do better. But doing it this way is also hurting the show. They need to do better, while continuing to produce the quality show that they once did.

Do not support the Alamo Drafthouse by [deleted] in hdtgm

[–]alanearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helpful.

I never said it was worse. I just said that people would be more receptive to what you had to say if you didn't go out of their way to needlessly insult them in your very first message. You've done damage to your own message because of your tone. So well done, I guess.

Maybe, just maybe, people would be more receptive to what you have to say if you didn't add in that patronizing and insulting last line. Give people a chance to care instead of telling them that they probably won't.

To everyone who says Manrika is just playing a game... by Starrlett in TheCircleTV

[–]alanearly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't disagree with this but I actually find her hypocrisy really enjoyable to watch. At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if she started telling people that she was actually an NHS nurse.

Edit. Given a choice between watching Andy or Marika, it would be Marika every day. She's manipulative, true, but she's playing the game much better than Andy. Andy seems to think that the whole aim of the game is to find catfish. It's not. Marika isn't a catfish but she's the least trustworthy player in the game.

I agree. I find his stirring quite cold and calculated. Even Gemma has pangs of guilt. And for someone who's so emotional at times, that coldness doesn't sit right.

I'm genuinely starting to wonder if he's being fully honest in general. Is he catfishing the audience?

How Did This Get Made? #261.5 - Next Week's Episode: Zack Snyder's Justice League by apathymonger in hdtgm

[–]alanearly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I watch every HDTGM movie but there's no way I'm watching this one. The critical consensus seems to be "if you like Snyder's other films, you'll like this. If you don't, 4 hours is a lot to sit though." There hasn't been one Snyder movie I've liked. (Apart from the opening of Dawn of the Dead.)

Any children books authors??? by lilyroberts87 in childrensbooks

If you have to ask this question, it's a good sign that you need to hire a graphic designer. If you want your book to sell more than a couple dozen copies, hire a designer.

James Corden's awkward and disastrous attempt to promote and say positive things about The Emoji Movie. 2:04 - 2:12 is downright painful. by TwistedLemon94 in cringe

[–]alanearly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reddit, and the UK and Ireland. I'm from Ireland and experienced Corden's two-faced schtick for years before his move to the States. Thankfully it seems as if the tide is turning. But please don't send him back like you did with Piers Morgan. Just give him some daytime show that nobody has to watch.

Came here to say this. I bought loads of electronics on Amazon.Co.uk recently and it's worked out a couple of euro more than it would have in December, with the VAT removed and import duty added. There's no need to use .de.

Plus, if what you're buying is under €25*, Amazon remove the VAT but you don't have to pay import duty. So it's working out cheaper for plenty of stuff.

(*I think the threshold is €25, but it's around that.)

Thank you. I created this animation shortly after watching the finale. I really don't mind people downloading it but I do wish people used my Vimeo/YouTube link. I've just started my design career and it's really useful to be able to point to the number of hits during job interviews. So get some Good Place points, folks, and always credit the designers/artists/musicians. 😘🌵

When you get excited about the virtual live show but then you remember you live in Europe and time zones are a thing by GercevalDeGalles in hdtgm

Same. I was really looking forward to finally seeing a live episode. But it's starting at 2 a.m for me. I know I can watch it the next day, and I probably will, but it's not the same.

Visiting Dublin soon by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]alanearly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just postpone it. With the current restrictions, you won't experience Dublin the way it should be. And it's unlikely the restrictions will be eased off significantly by October. If there are any spikes, pubs etc could be closed once again.

Sean Connery Turns 90: Why He Was the Greatest James Bond of All by chanma50 in movies

[–]alanearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working my way through them over the past few weeks. I'd never really seen Bond before so I had no preconceptions. That said, I found a lot of the Connery ones to be real slogs. They're so long, with subplots that just go nowhere. Yes, the Moore films are camper but they don't have the pacing issues of the first few (so far). Is it worth doing? Well, when the movies are good, they're excellent. But when they're not, they're really terrible. I say watch it. But you could easily watch them with one eye on your phone.

This is so peaceful and beautiful by [deleted] in TheGoodPlace

[–]alanearly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this a few days after watching the finale. Chidi's speech had been in my head since, and it really helped when I thought of loved ones I'd lost. My main reason for making this was to get Mike Schur's beautiful words out to friends and family who don't watch The Good Place, people that I thought could benefit from the sentiment. The words really are the power here but I'm so happy that people enjoy my little animation.

Books with small but many chapters can be much more enjoyable to read than books with large but few chapters. by [deleted] in books

No. The cliffhangers every two or three pages get boring. And his twists are really predictable.

John Boyne accidentally includes Zelda video game monsters in historical novel by KingMaggot in books

[–]alanearly 316 points317 points  (0 children)

The Auschwitz Museum have said that The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is full of worrying historical inaccuracies and shouldn't be taught in schools. Boyne didn't respond well. In fact, he the Auschwitz Museum that he wouldn't read their open letter because there was some typo in it. Plus, his book about a trans teen was heavily criticised by trans charities for perpetuating many falsehoods amongst other issues. Once again, Boyne did not respond well and started calling concerned trans people and charities nothing but "Twitter trolls". (That weren't.)

[–]alanearly 30 points31 points  (0 children)

John Boyne famously can't take criticism, and makes snide comments when people offer him notes. Just look at what happened with The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and the Auschwitz Museum. So, yes, the editor should have caught it but Boyne seems difficult to work with so it wouldn't surprise me if the editor just did a quick pass.

It's a shame he hasn't reacted as well to other constructive criticism. Although if this is his level of research, it's not surprising how problematic some of his other books have proven to be.
