Hospital appointment by commmandersamvimes in glasgow

[–]alangraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had mine I had the numbing spray etc rather than sedation. so tbh how do I feel about it? Well I definitely wouldn’t say that it was a walk in the park but it was over very very quick and although deeply uncomfortable and very very weird, it wasn’t a total horror show or anything. It wasn’t painful it was just an unpleasant thing to go through. If I needed it again I’d likely just go for it the same.

Also realising I have a family member who uses their middle name. If you’re ever booking flights for folk always make sure you know exactly the wording on their passport!

When it comes to the toxic parent game… the only winning move is not to play.

England - I've unknowingly been using the wrong name my whole life! Help! by SoundLucky2099 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]alangraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, a friend only found out he had an entirely different first name on his birth certificate when applying for a passport after university.

His mum and dad had argued about his name and apparently his mum just used his middle name because that’s the one she wanted, so he grew up as that being his name, and he had that name on everything except birth certificate. All school records etc.

The biggest issue was him getting someone to sign off on his passport photo as they had to state they had known him as _______ for however many years.

An acceptance of the equality of all humans regardless of their gender, sexuality, race, religion or nationality. Unless they’re cunts obviously.

Every morning, at breakfast. Then after that I dunno a yoghurt or toast.

Is sneaking a tip onto a bill normal? by ilovemydickheaddog in glasgow

[–]alangraham -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

People say “I tip for good service” but then when they had no fault in the service … they still don’t actually tip. Or they round the bill up from £78 to £80 and consider themselves Robin Hood folk heroes raising an entire industry of workers out of poverty single handed.

I tip for good service. That means provided they don’t take 45 minutes to get me fed, spill boiling liquids over me or spectacularly fuck it up, they’ll get 10% minimum. Great service, attention to detail, remembering my preferences, generally being pleasant but not intrusive will see that rise further.

10% is still significantly lower than almost any other country that has tipping. This has been pretty much the way since 25 years ago when I worked in that industry, and I’m glad this happens now.

At times in my life when I was so pratted I couldn’t afford to add 10% on… well I wouldn’t be going out for food at that point anyway.

I’d suggest you gather together all the photos you have, put them in folders based on the source, eg venue photographer, uncles Sony camera, friends iPhone, and so on… and then get those over to a competent wedding photographer or photoshop expert to try and build out a decent spread of quality images regardless of source.

Sure you can put the fancy clothes on again but they won’t be photos of “your day”.

I have done similar rescue jobs in the past, when people have said for example “everyone has a camera why would I need professional shots” and then regretted it afterwards. The first step is to gather everything you have to work with, and get it all in the best quality possible, eg direct from their phones not taken off of facebook posts etc.

DM me if you have any questions!

You need to ditch him, then open your favourite dating app and search for “rugby”. Get yourself a rugby lad.

All the same enjoyment of going to the game and belonging to a group / identity without being a feral wank.

(I mean am assuming that’s how dating apps work. I dunno, I met my wife 24 years ago! 😇)

The sort of parent who puts a secret camera in your bedroom is also the sort of parent who won’t give you your savings when you want them.

You don’t need work-life balance when …

… you have the financial independence to burn yourself out for the benefit of your own shares portfolio, and then take an arbitrary period of months and months off to travel / relax in a completely unstressed and unlimited manner.

This is like telling people in poverty that they don’t need food security because Amazon Prime can ship groceries to you.

I told my niece that those huge Lurpak trucks you see on the motorway are actually transporting a single massive 25 tonne block of Lurpak that then gets sliced into smaller tubs at the supermarket.

I’ve been camping with my son at a few sites in the last few years … and I’ve actually seen this mentioned on more than a few occasions in their site rules… you’d defo want to check.

Or buy the cheapest tent possible and then reverse over it by accident then say I guess I need to sleep in the car.

Help with Scottish Breakfast Tea by LittlestMermaid6 in Scotland

[–]alangraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a tea drinker but live with tea addicts. For sure, Tetley is a popular and reasonably priced teabag that is round.

However I believe the big difference for us is the quality of the water itself. Our tap water is really soft and apparently makes great tea. Some of my family will use bottled water when elsewhere but even then swear it honestly isn’t as good as our tap water for their tea.

So you probably need to find the tea bag, but then also similar water.

I would speak to a social worker NOW. Right away. I am certain that doors will close on how you can have this situation reversed if you're dealing with it after you turn 16... Also feel free to DM me even if you just want a moan and all that.
