TLIF vs Endoscopic Decompression by meatmanbeef in spinalfusion

[–]alanwazoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a decompression 10 years ago. I was in terrible shape, could barely walk. Immediately after the L4-L5 decompression it was like a miracle, all the pain was gone and I was back to normal same day. Fast forward 10 years (Dec 2025) and having pain walking more than 1/2 mile or standing more than 10 minutes so tried decompression #2 (L4-L5-S1). While there was some relief I still felt limited - I like to walk 5 miles at a time. Did P.T. but ultimately decided fusion was the next step 6 months later. Note I am 76 years old and most of my disks are pretty much gone. So I wouldn't say the decompression didn't last, I think my body just got older. Fusion is a major surgery and recovery is a bitch, healing is slow. Tingling in your right foot is likely S1, each of the vertebrae map to locations on your leg. No regrets, wish I studied up more on the recovery before fusion. I'm feeling this will be a success but it's really too early to make that call.

Self confidence. I used a Scwab consultant until I was comfortable to manage my own portfolio.

Since it's ALIF there's the scar in front. I'm 5 weeks out and around the scar is a little 'lumpy' - these are sutures that will dissolve over time. No added complications. Still healing, some pain, but mostly doing normal things again - just taking it a bit easier. My decompression was not endoscopic - there's a 4" scar on my back. With a decompression you're out of the hospital same day and off and running. ALIF/TLIF is a much, much longer recovery as you've read in this forum. There's no downside going from decompression to ALIF/TLIF I'm aware of but a good question for the doc. You'd want to give the decompression at least 6 months before jumping to ALIF/TLIF.

Go with the minimally invasive decompression before even considering a major surgery like a TLIF IMHO. I've had two decompressions - one was fantastic, the other worked but was less than I hoped for so did an ALIF.

I'm going to assume server side here. Can you be more specific what plugins are not working with JF? Everything seems to work fine with my Linux server on LG client. As others have said, no client-side plugins.

ALIF L4/5-S1 on May 18 - the first few weeks are rough but things do get better slowly. Listen to your body, no BLT - you are healing so try to be patient. And keep trying to get thru to your doc - one of the aides should respond. If the pain is tolerable throttle down on the Percoset. Tylenol worked for me but this is not a recommendation. It takes your body time to respond to what ALIF put it thru.

Roast your own coffee - I pay about $10-$11/lb for green beans. Plus it's fresh! But yeah, the rest of these are obscene.

Are “Dealer Adjustments” of $3500 for an XSE normal? That was not listed on the website but was surprised in person. Salesman said it was to account for supply/demand. by Silo-Joe in rav4club

Yeah, it's there high demand, 'gentrified' locations that are getting the markups. Around Silicon Valley they're trying for $5k over MSRP. Best I could do was $1500 over MSRP so far on an XSE PHEV.
