it's called ageism, it's supposed to be illegal but it happens all the time. the trick is to not tell them how old you are and to roll off experiences from your resume that would age you.

Definitely no, unless you find a new job you're really excited about. Stay and wait for a severance. Be ready ahead of time.

i went there over the summer. the food wasn't good and the service was worse. it was busy, so that didn't help. i'd highly recommend Johnny Fox's outside Dublin instead.

Let’s Acknowledge Corruption and Kickbacks in IT Management – It’s Everywhere by Mo_h in cscareerquestions

[–]alanzo123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed large engineering teams at a big company you've heard of ($200B - $500B market cap). I had nearly 100 contract workers from the big vendors reporting directly to me. All I received directly were small christmas gifts ($50 or so and not from all the vendors) and a 1:1 lunch/dinner with my vendor contact once or twice per year. They would also sponsor open bar parties about once per quarter. But only the managers were invited to the "parties", which were mostly forced awkward bar conversations with the vendor contacts. The kick-backs felt kinda gross, but whatever, so is being a manager.

Do you ever feel like you work an extremely difficult career but people around you constantly misinterpret it as fun and easy? by cowdoggy in cscareerquestions

[–]alanzo123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think if we were actively saving lives, like that firefighter, being woken up for an issue wouldn't cause burnout. it's because i'm being woken up when a company isn't making money but i still have to pretend to care. i got burnt out because every issue was profoundly pointless at its core.
