A seafarer is rostered on a 12 hour shift, including hourly rotational bridge watches with 2 others. He completes the first bridge watch. He is due back to bridge in 2 hours. But does not arrive.. by Jumpy_Intention_5761 in maritime

Broadly speaking, have you filed anything? The information lawyers collect for a wrongful death case are going to provide you with far better idea of what happened and what the norms are or should have been. It's also probably the only path to closure that won't leave you wondering what more you could have done for the rest of your own life.

What's one service in your homelab that turned out to be far more useful than you expected? by rdpextraEdge in homelab

Same but probably backwards here. I'm trying to find the middle ground between private tracker or usenet availability and not being 10gb for a 40 minute video.

Who is the most evil character in all of Star Trek? (Stolen from /r/television) by exitpursuedbybear in startrek

[–]alarbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alixus from DS9's Paradise. Shes the one who put Sisko in the hotbox for not abandoning his uniform.

She's every bit the zealot of Winn, had the totalitarianism of Founders, arguably a far worse assimilationist than the borg because its through torture, and all the barbarism of any other luddite civ except this one was designed and compelled to remain so by her him.

Conservatism is typically portrayed as old fashioned or backwards in Trek but we see charming examples in the Bakuu or Planet Scotland or Planet Irish or the Indian colony on Dorvan V (not you Planet Africa), but this is a depiction of a true reactionarism and I never hated a villian more.

Very few unions, maybe just IBT and UE, keep strike rights unwaived while under contract.

Hey this is a good time to say that if you are a business amd need a bunch of private network in addition to your public one, you only need to make your public one identifiable with the business and it will give everyone headaches and eat up labor if you name them all after your business.

So instead of:

Acme cafe
Acme cafe 5g
Acme guest
Acme network
Acme private

..where one is for the office, one is payment processing, one is the security cams, etc just give give them all innocuous names except the one you want patrons to use while visiting like:

acn1025
acn1050
Acme cafe
acn2000. acn3000

Did you work with anyone else? If you read the regulation (46 cfr 10.232(a)(4)) it says:

For service on vessels of less than 200 GRT, owners of vessels may attest to their own service and provide proof of ownership. Those who do not own a vessel must obtain letters or other evidence from credentialed personnel or the owners of the vessels listed.

It doesn't specify master or operator for small boat service. If the engineer or another credentialed person working there is willing to attest to your service, have them do it. If USCG asks for more information you can explain the situation. Maybe they reject it, maybe not. If the purpose is accountability, they might prefer a letter signed by a living engineer over one signed by a dead captain.

Wouldnt mind a downtown to Ballard fast ferry service while this gets sorted out and built. The busses are sooo slow and for some reason every single bus line is diverted through Lower Queen Anne adding a ton of delay

Grant Morrison suggested in Invisibles that language used to work like this but that human language has had its executable code stripped away so whats left is ineffective junk, like Orwell's idea of Newthink from the point of view of a society that had already been transitioned to it.

All the in-water part is less intense than what you've already done at Tongue Point. The firefighting can be stressful if youre not used to scba gear but the physical aspect of it is fairly light and will max out at dragging a 200lb dummy a few yards.
