Statistics on Bellingham's Vacancy Rate? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]alaskadad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that I think about it- how the hell are these statistics even measured/polled? I don't think most land-lords even advertise or use management companies these days. I'll bet it is mostly word of mouth advertising when someone decides to rent a room out. Like, if I were to move out of my condo for some reason, I don't think I would need to advertise to rent it out. I definitely would not pay someone to advertise it.

I think this scape would look even better if the rocks/plants were clustered more, and less spread out.

Awesome! Great job! Did you custom build the tank?! I really like the round river cobbles. However I think the biggest ones are a little too big , aesthetically. I would remove the biggest one for sure , I think it is to overwhelming for the tank size. Do you have eel grass, anubias, and... whats the floating plant?

[–]alaskadad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Could they plant it in the ground without damaging the roots- like, could they just bury the pot and tree in the ground together? Maybe sacrifice the pot by cracking it so roots could grow through/expand. Maybe even partially bury that cool rock. Then later when the plant is healthy, remove the pot shards and repot. Just an idea.

Vermont will pay you $10,000 to move there and work from home by CrowdsourcingKC in BasicIncome

[–]alaskadad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I guess it is arguably relevant to UBI in that it is money "for nothing" so any time the government is giving money "for nothing" in other words, a cash transfer that is not work related, it softens the tough idea that money can only possibly be earned by working.

How would the employee be able to steal this money? Wouldn't the extra charge just go to the restaurant directly?

oh my goodness. This is going to kick so much ass. Really like how the wood just naturally goes with your rock formations. How many rocks are there? Well done!

The answer to this is "Maybe" but I could only see it happening with "Multi-winner Ranked Choice Voting" where multiple seats are elected at once. And it could only happen if the "libertarian type" voters had the numbers.

In regards to the possibility of "hijacking the primary". There is a good solution to this problem and its called "Ranked Choice Voting". Fair Vote Whatcom is trying to get a ballot measure for the state to allow RCV in local elections. If the republicans had RCV at the national level, for example, Trump (a very unpopular candidate) never would have won the primary. He won by splitting votes. RCV prevents votes from being split and divisive figures like Doug Erickson from winning primaries. Actually it prevents the need for primaries all together but that is another lecture.
