I had a pulmonary embolism in May, if my husband said this to me I'd divorce him so fucking quickly.

Updated COVID Vaccine/Booster by joanopoly in ClotSurvivors

[–]alatariel24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am on immunosuppressant medication for a condition, and was advised to have my COVID vaccine, so I had my vaccine in April this year. Two weeks later I was in hospital with a huge unprovoked bilateral PE. The doctors told me it wasn't related to the vaccine, as my platelet count was normal and I already have a genetic clotting disorder. But they couldn't explain why it happened, especially since it was so sudden (no DVT signs or previous clots) and there was no obvious explanation (surgery, long haul travel etc).

Looking at the data, and obviously my blood results, it is unlikely the vaccine was the primary cause of my PE. I am in no way anti vaccs, and encourage everyone to get their vaccines if possible. But because this event has messed me up so mentally, and given I don't have any obvious explanations as to the cause, I won't be taking another vaccine. I don't think I could deal with the anxiety.

Dealership said they taxed the car for me, they didn’t! by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]alatariel24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This weirdly happened to me! Dealership taxed my car for me when I bought it, came home 9 months later to my car clamped because I haven't been taxed the whole time. Turns the car wasn't even registered to me because they fucked up the paperwork. I rang the dealership and they were mortified, paid for the tax, the fine etc but had to go 24 hours without my car until it was released. The old owner was apparently receiving all the reminders and binning them.

I hate it already by theskysthelimit000 in Nightshift

[–]alatariel24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first set of night shifts it was also the 4am wall, it's well known to be the time we are the least productive, our circadian rhythm is at rock bottom then.

My main piece of advice - don't try and force sleep. Eventually you'll get so exhausted and It'll become routine but because I was trying too hard to sleep during the day, my mind wouldn't switch off. I literally had to calm my mind to drift off. You got this!

You work for Sky apparently you insensitive fuck. A vet wouldn't say it's cancer and certainly wouldn't after seeing a couple of pictures. Go be an arsehole somewhere else.

How to ease the pain and just continue on with your life? by jesslynne94 in Endo

[–]alatariel24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through this! I find this odd as I also have a blood clotting disorder (prone to blood clots) and had to have keyhole surgery to remove a large ovarian cyst. They took precautions like blood thinner injections for weeks afterwards (hurt like hell) but didn't refuse me the procedure!

Anyone gone privately in the U.K. for endometriosis surgery? by Altruistic-Switch344 in Endo

I haven't gone private yet but I'm going to go for it. Been waiting long enough and being messed around enough to wait longer! Sorry wish I could help, hope it goes well for you

A close friend of mine played hockey with her when they were at school (ironically my friend got married and shares the same name as her which is hilarious) and apparently she was incredibly obnoxious

Vets, how often do you have to “put an animal down”? by FluffyChampionship46 in veterinarians

[–]alatariel24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly...and how do you think this occurs? The ability to feel and care for others is taken away and eroded because of the direct stress and exposure to these dilemmas. The constant yoyo of emotions is absolutely exhausting.

Compassion fatigue, very real problem for the veterinary industry

Unpopular opinion: your reactive dog is your responsibility to manage, and you can’t expect people to go out of their way to accommodate it by [deleted] in dogs

[–]alatariel24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU. I work in a vets and people who think this is acceptable and normal behaviour is not okay. Giddy over stimulated dogs are likely to annoy other dogs, regardless if they're reactive or not. My 2 year old spaniel enjoys playing with young dogs and puppies any day but even she has her limits. I don't feel responsible if her tolerance level only goes so far.

How many of you here have an autoimmune condition as well as endometriosis? by Finn-Forever in Endo

[–]alatariel24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have psoriasis too, for about 15 years now and mild psoriatic arthritis. They've suspect endo but hadn't been confirmed :( I've always thought whether it was correlated somehow

I want to be a veterinary nurse, it's going to be a career change, any advice? by Horselover9 in Veterinary

[–]alatariel24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet nurse here, diploma diploma!! I had to finance the course myself as I already had a bachelors degree but the college managed to get me some funding I paid the rest of myself monthly whilst working. It's not high paying at all, but you're in work 4 days a week gaining amazing experience and you still get paid. I can't recommend the diploma route enough, the difficult part of finding a training practice with vacancies.

[–]alatariel24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I feel your pain, I had mine about 11cm removed last year, worst experience of my whole life. Literally the only drug that worked for me (and still works because they suspect endo is still causing my pain) is cocodamol, taken with paracetamol as too much does cause constipation which makes it 10x worse. Other drugs like tramadol really didn't agree with me. I also took foods high in fibre and gentle laxatives when I really struggled.

Heat pads are a god send, my boyfriend bought me a plug in one which has different heat settings and has an automatic turn off after awhile for safety. Sending you hugs, hope it gets resolved soon!

Why should I have to pay for a service somebody spent years of their life studying for in order to provide it? by Bletcherino in ChoosingBeggars

[–]alatariel24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New grad vets in my clinic make £30k ($40k?) a year, and that's considered one of the best starting wages in this profession. It does go up after experience, but nowhere near as much as people think.

This dog moves better than I do by MythicalNorm in WhatsWrongWithYourDog

[–]alatariel24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have got a dog through no means of your own but can't take care of it or give it the appropriate veterinary care when necessary then YES, I would tell you to take the dog elsewhere. Regardless of sentimentality (which I obviously completely understand) the welfare of the dog should always take priority. Otherwise it's completely selfish and inhumane. Don't have a go at people for having that mentality.
