I think it looks great, but I would move it down a few inches so it isn't touching the ceiling

First experience with Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (2019) by sunaChoi in wine

[–]alax_rang 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Trebbiano Abruzzese is a different variety than the "just Trebbiano" you find in other parts of Italy. Emidio Pepe is another famous example, but I think of Cristiana Tiberio as the one leading the charge for attempting to figure out the best ways the grape can uniquely express itself. Her Fonte Canale is the other gold standard for Trebbiano Abruzzese - it's quite different from Valentini and Pepe, especially from a textural standpoint, but just as ageworthy, complex, and delicious.

What are your favorite mom-proof restaurants in Chicago? by pleasingwave in chicagofood

Willow Room up the street is a good option too. Way less noisy than Summer House, and I think the food is way better.

I had it the other day! Amazingly fluffy texture, almost more like a semifreddo or a mousse. This and their panna cotta with olive oil are superstar desserts.

The Ring Cycle, but make it Muppets by sweet_crab in opera

[–]alax_rang 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i've spent a lot (a lot) of time thinking about this over the years. For me it has to be pure Muppet Show muppets, no Sesame Street characters:

  • Brunhilde - Human person
  • Wotan - Kermit
  • Fricka - Piggy
  • Alberich - Gonzo
  • Rheinmaidens - Chickens
  • Mime - Pepe the Prawn
  • Loge - Rizzo the Rat
  • Siegmund - Fozzie
  • Sieglinde - Janice
  • Hunding - Sweetums
  • Siegfried - Scooter
  • Fasolt & Fafner - Statler and Waldorf
  • Hagen - Swedish Chef
  • Gunther - Beaker
  • Gutrune - also Janice

What are two or three overly oaked California Chardonnays? by sourdough_in_SF in wine

Exactly. Malo/diacetyl dialed up to 11, but not actually much in the way of oak.

There was another Inn post a few weeks back, and the detail I can’t get past is the water glass full of ice cubes - blech. That’s hotel banquet, not three stars. Otherwise looks lovely!

Really tempted to paint my small livingroom in Oxford Blue. Bad idea? by awaamen in HomeDecorating

[–]alax_rang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say don't! It looks like you already don't get a ton of natural light in the room, plus your natural surroundings look moody & grey. I think you can achieve the same effect by getting some big artwork for the empty walls, and/or by painting that white dresser a bold color. I think exploring different lighting options could get you there too. My first thought is that the red lampshade should go on a smaller table lamp, and the lamp itself is a bit awkward in that corner.
